Manual transmission oil

Hey all I'm getting mine changed at a Nissan Dealer tomorrow and they claim that the part number for Infiniti/Nissan Manual transmission fluid/oil is actually Royal Purple. Is this true or are they just trying to charge me extra for the $hit they have?

What happened to ur tranny? Are u getting it swapped under warranty or charge?

btw that is the first time i have heard this and really doubt it, i wont say for sure cause i havent ever really researched on it but im sure someone with better info will chime in.

But imo its a way of making more money if they are not covering it under warranty.

Manual transmission oil/fluid is supposed to be changed at 30K according to the service manual and I'm at 39K. There is no problem with my tranny. Its called "Preventative Maintenance"

my bad... i guess i read your post wrong. nice job keeping up with the "preventive maintenance", as for the oil in that case, tell them that you want OEM fluids from Nissan's OEM bottles regardless of who the manufacturer is, as long as they get you sealed OEM fluid in nissan bottles at oem prices youre fine, else its your call.

The reason i say this is because my dealer advised me against using Royal Purple Motor oil a longtime back citing it will cause my CATs to fail(he actually was an active member of many forums and showed me a few threads on it) and they will not cover them in that case, not sure about their MT fluid though.

RP is a good company but if you search around here you will see ppl complaining about their MT gears grinding and stuff when they switched to AM fluid(specifically redline i believe) and problem was solved once they went back to OEM or Amsoil i think.

^No prob. Funny thing is this is the same dealer that told me just a week ago that Infiniti doesn't recommend Synthetic oil in the engine since it messes up the valves. I'm thinking this was because I took my own oil in to then to change. Cost $14.95. Yeah I will tell him I want OEM. He claims the part number for the OEM is Royal Purple, I find that hard to believe but I will let you know for sure in about 4 hrs when I have my appt.

^ sounds good, and if it turns out to be a hoax to get more money out of you, then you might wanna consider taking your business elsewhere.

Well I didn't see the actual bottle but told them exactly what's in my book as what I wanted in my car, and why. Receipt said WRP70 W 90 royal purple, for both my tranny oil as well as my differential which I decided to do also. Well ya know it's Nissan and a Nissan vehicle so if the fluid **** anything up, hey they have no leg to stand on with regards to warranty claims. Yeah I'm $260 poorer too

Wow they were really insistent on this huh? anyways no matter what happens keep the receipt in a safe place where you cant loose it for IF you ever need it.

Otherwise do you feel any difference in shifting? from what iv heard most AM oils cause the synchro's to grind(except amsoil) at times especially when cold, post a quick review after a few hundred miles if you can. Might turn into a good swap at the end.

Thanks

Yeah I feel a smother shifting but that happens with freshly added oils. Happens in my bikes too. I have all receipts for service for my 2 bikes and vehicles in my maintenance folders if I ever need them. We shall see if it affects anything.

my owners manual says to only use OEM Nissan manual trans oil or you will void the transmission warranty. My dealer wanted $250 to change my trans oil and I laughed in their face. I went to the Nissan dealer down the street and picked up 4 quarts of Nissan OEM trans oil for $48 and then drove to jiffy lube and they changed it for me for $30. $78 total!

I refuse to let the stealership do anything to my car unless another shop can't do it or it's a warrantied item. They wanted $70 to change my cabin filter... I did it myself for $10!

it says that for sure on the AT's not sure about the MTs though since it just gear oil, but reading reviews around it seems OEM is best for our trannys to avoid grinding, most complains have been with redline.
