Custom Exhaust
Infiniti engineers could easily have developed different parts or a true dual system without it being loud. They chose this set up for a reason. There is also a reason why all these aftermarket catbacks yield maybe 2hp at the most. The cats are the most restrictive part.
and if they dont care about performance, why offer a 6spd MT or even an engine at over 300hp?

Where do you get 2hp? Most cat-backs are 8-12hp range. That is significant. None of them are quiet. When it comes to exhausts, you have to sacrifice noise to get the most power. A lot of noise is acceptable for the GTR but not for Infiniti sedans.
Why didn't Infiniti go with a long-tube intake setup if they wanted performance? Both Injen and Stillen G3 make more hp than stock. But why ask why? It is what it is.

Most tunes I see are getting 8-10hp. Is that what you are calling "real"?
I think it says quite a bit about how Infiniti engineered the Gs. Most aftermarket parts that can yield significant gains in other makes are quite minimal w/ the VQs, seems like they're pretty "maxed-out" from the factory, not a bad thing IMO.

Getting back to the topic, is there an update on this?
I just did the muffler delete, pipes striaght back to tips and it sounds great aside from the cabin drone between 1700-2500RPM like another person pointed out. Driving me nuts and i'm probably going to put the stock system back on.

I deleted stock resonators and replaced with magnaflow 11835 resonated X. Dual all the way back with 0 drone and 0 rasp. Very small sound increase. Maybe not enough. Stock mufflers dampen sound a lot.
I did the muffler delete about 6 months ago and had the same problem with the cabin drone. Here is what I did to completely remove the drone:
