VQ35HR engine oil

After a few months it is time for an oil change.
The previous owner has used a ful synthetic oil, so i also have to i think, i heard changing back to mineral oil could harm the engine.

I always liked Castrol oil, so that is my first choise, but what is the right oil for the car.
There are a lot of differend types, Start/stop, longlife. C1, C2, C3, C4, so i am a bit lost now.

I found this oil for an ok price, ±$40,- for a 5 quart can, would this oil work for our VQ35HR
5 quart should be enough, but i am ordering another quart just to be sure.

Castrol Edge Titanium 5W-30 Longlife 5 liter

You can switch back and forth between conventional and synthetic all you like for some reason that myth still exists. I would not recommend blending the two though...

There's no right answer to what brand oil you should use. If it works for you then stick with it. I've been running castrol gtx for the past 50k miles. Castrol recommends the edge line on their website.

Synthetic oils also have smaller molecules. So if the engine seals are poor, it could expose a leak. Another reason why I run conventional

The "Titanium" product from Castol is kinda their top-of-the-line stuff - and obviously the most expensive. If it makes people feel better, it's their money, so go for it ! I really doubt it's that much better and "lesser" synthetics will be more than sufficient. The local Infiniti dealers use a synthetic blend for their oil change deals.

5 quarts is plenty too. The manual says 5.13 quarts but I only use 5 and the dipstick reads maybe 1/8" below the "H"(igh) mark.

My previous car is also running on Castrol GTX, but this is 10W40.
I need 5W30 now, but that is a lot harder to find semi-synthetic, most sold oils around here are full synyhetic

The price difference between semi-synthetic and full synthetic oil is about $2,- per quart, so that is not really an issue.

I just need to find out the difference between the oils,

Castrol has 2 types of normal oil, Castrol Edge Titanium LongLife 5W30, and Castrol Edge Titanium C3 5W30 , what is the best for our cars

Shell has a lot more differend types of oil, should the normal 5W30 Shell Helix ultra be okay for our cars.
Other Shell Helix oil has an extra code, C3, AF, AM, AG, AP-L, what does it mean, and do we need that?

Go to Castrol's website, enter your car details and see what they recommend. They will say 5W-20 or 30 and will "recommend" synthetic. Two reasons: higher revenue for them and synthetic is technically better.

I went to www.castrol.nl and made it through the Dutch language and they only list (3) choices, (2) being the same ones you listed already. They do list a third option, Magnatec Stop/Start 5W-30 C2 (do NOT worry one bit about the 'stop/start' part). It just appears that the Netherlands has limited choices from Castrol.

I checked the Castrol website, and it is not perfect, Engine code for V36 is VQ35DE, and the Long life oil is not in the list, i have no idea why
If C3 is better then long life, then i will use that oil.

Magnetic start/stop are in the list, 4 differend versions, C2, A5, A3/B4, and C3.

I found some information about those ACEA codes, it has something to do with the viscosity of the oil.

The sub-forum you're posting in is for 07-08 models and the engine code for these is VQ35HR, not DE, if I'm not mistaken. That was the previous generation engine, though I doubt the oil requirements are any different.

Any 5W30 will work, but yes the Castrol edge 5L you listed would be a premium oil with supposed 'ultra' protection.

I've been using Castrol Edge in my car for the past 40,000km but the 'extended' variant which lasts up to 24,000km according to the label. Since I don't like doing oil changes very often (or spending more than I need to) that's the one i go with along with a mobil one filter also rated at up to 24,000.
