Unfortunately, I was rear-ended a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday my Service Engine Light came in and I checked the code to find the PO420 Catalytic System below threshold bank 1.
Any my chance this is related to the damage in the rear? Or unrelated O2 sensor or Catalytic Converter problem??
Most probably?
Have you or a body shop carefully inspected the underside of your vehicle on a lift after the accident?
Telcoman
We have not looked under the car yet. If there is damage from the accident, it is likely at the very rear end of the system. Perhaps that could trigger an issue?
I suppose the exhaust could be damaged in a way that causes an obstruction?

You are not clever at all if you don't get the car inspected by a competent body shop right now. The tailpipe is connected to the engine, so the accident could definitely affect any part in between. You wanted advice, heed it.
I appreciate your friendly advice. I took the vehicle to 4 bodyshops for estimates and none put the car on a lift. I have never seen one do that during an estimate, but I have never had much damage to a vehicle either.
The SEL light had not come on when I was getting the estimates so there was no discussion of that.
As of now the light has gone out and not returned so I’m not sure what the issue is but I will mention it when I take the car in for repairs next week.
