Why not? Let's talk exhuast/intake

I wish there was a sticky. What's everyone's setup? Are you satisfied with what you opted for? With so many companies spitting out various mufflers/catbacks/HFC/intakes, making a decision isn't easy, especially without hearing or driving firsthand. I'm in search for a high-end system where the components will compliment each other and that will pass annual emissions. It's that simple. There's lots of quality (and seemingly not so quality) stuff on the market these days. I don't want to have buyers remorse because I overlooked something. Please share your driving experiences and impressions. Many thanks!

Well I'm on the V35 platform, coupe, used to have the Fast Intentions traditional cat back and the RHFC's and even though that's considered a "quieter" setup it was still way too loud for me. I ended up keeping the RHFC and going back to the stock exhaust but with an HR y-pipe. Very happy with it now.

I think the biggest question people need to ask themselves is exactly how loud is too loud, how much rasp is too much rasp. Any drone is unacceptable.

I've heard two different V36 that were completely stock except for a muffler delete and I think it sounds fine. You can't get away with that on a V35 coupe it sounds terrible.

Find people local that have the setup you are looking for so you can hear it in person, this should be practically mandatory.

^^Thanks. After reading some reviews and researching a bit, I'm pretty much on board with FI. It's just a matter of which components to go with. For me, it's always a balancing act trying to maximize performance while keeping things (sort of) civilized. I don't mind loud just as long as it has good tone. Yes, drone sucks. The resonated HFC is a no brainer. Any quality header options that have direct fitment?

Not many header options for the HR. Came across this

That's because you don't exactly need headers for the HR since the factory ones are incredibly efficient.

I took the plunge and ordered the FI catback (with 18" resonator x pipe and 2.5" tubing) and resonated HFC. Expected ship date is late February/early March. The Stillen Gen 3 intakes are on hand. When the exhaust arrives, I'll schedule my Uprev Osiris dyno tune and complete the process.

As a side note, I had the BG Platinum Euro intake/fuel service done yesterday. It's a super invasive procedure that runs a chemical solution through the plenum (I believe) for upwards of 2 hours whereby removing years of built up carbon. It's the latest and greatest service from BG. The tech said the amount of crap that exited the tailpipe was astonishing. My butt dyno tells me I may have picked up 10 ponies after this. I highly recommend it for our high mileage cars.
