When to Change Oil In new G??

Hey guy's! I got a letter from my Infinti Dealer, saying my car was ready for it's 3,000mi or 3 Month Service? Now I Only have 960mi on my new G and I had it since End of Jan! Do I half to change the Oil already? Even before I make the break-In Miles? Or Do I Wait till 1200mi then change the Oil? I rarely use the Car on the Weekdays to work, Mostly Weekend Duty or going out After work! So what Should I Do? Change the Oil Now? Or wait till I break it in the Full 1200mi, When I reach the 1200mi mark, it will probably be about 2 more months before I hit that mark? Hmmm Suggestions on this would be Cool! Thx

If its complimentary from the dealership, change'um! It won't do any harm if you change the factory oil out early.

Changed mine a little early myself @ approx. 2700mi and put in some fresh Mobil 1(never got a notice from Ericsson, though...?). Surprisingly, it was pretty black with some metal flakes in it.

Gonna do the next one right at the 6000mi mark and every 3k thereafter.
With such low miles and low usage, though, you could probably hold off til you hit the actual mileage(in about 6 more months the rate you're driving it )

I got my first oil change at around 800 mi. Every 3500-5000 with Mobil 1 thereafter. Some people will go against that (first oil change @ 800 or earlier than the traditional 3000 mark).. and say there's no point for it. But I've done it ever since my WRX and my car's have ran well ever since. Just check your oil frequently and you should be good.`

HAHA cool, If it's free maybe I'll have them CHange it! Or I'll Wait a little longer, since Like you said, I rarely Use it, I can maybe wait till I get more Miles! But nah, I drive it when I can, just my working place is so dusty, and the Landscape guy's that cut the Grass and Weedwack, No Care at all about peeps cars parked on the Road, they fly Rocks, Grass, Dirt on our cars!! Damn FOB Workers I tell you! No Respect!! So Don't want the G to get all Buss up from these FOB Workers!

LMAO yea at the Rate I am going, I'll be Lucky if i get 2000mi by the end of 2007!

I leased mine, so I'll be using the official scheduled distance of 3750 for my oil change.

I've had my car one week short of 4 months. I only have about 1600 miles on it, but decided to have the 3 month service done this coming Friday. I figured I'd play it safe. The old school of thought (and it is an old school of thought, which may not be as relevant these days) is to change the oil after 1000 miles or so. Also, I figured it's been over 3 months, and oil does age (though if you believe their 6 month option, the oil should be relatively new still). Anyway, I am getting splash guards this Friday and I also scheduled the fix for the heated seats (it got cold again here in the East Coast... they might come in handy). So, I figured I might as well go for the oil change. Won't hurt to get it done early. Also, who knows, maybe the oil they put in the car originally may have been better for winter than summer (thought I don't know if they put different oil in Japan not knowing where a car might wind up).

Anyway, maybe for future oil changes, I'll also wait longer than 3 months since I don't expect to drive 3,750 miles every 3 months, but probably not too much longer than 3 months....

Also, I asked when I should start using synthetic oil. The person I spoke to said something about not until after 12,000 miles or so. Seems that the right time to switch to synthetic oil is another item that not everyone agrees on.

I just had my first oil change at roughly 3750 miles. Never got a letter, just a maintenance reminder. Went to the dealership; took roughly 2hrs for an oil change and free car wash. Busy Tuesday. My sales rep also told me that my spoiler was ready to be installed. I din't even recall this in my package. O-well. Will install anyways. Next oil change is roughly 7200 (Mobile 1 also).

You don't need to change your oil every 3000 miles! That is a bunch of crap. Especially if you are using synthetic!

Yup, check your maintenance book. They recommend one of two maintenance schedules depending on your driving habits. Mine is a lot of highway mixed w/city so I'm on the every 7,500 maintenance schedule. Infiniti goes to synthetic with your first oil change. I've heard a lot of what's been said here, however, that was with older cars.
