Headlights Shut Off

Sorry if this has been asked before but after doing some research with the manual and playing around with the headlights this is the conclusion I came to:

1) If you have the headlights in the AUTO position, put the car in park, turn off the car, open the door, the headlights will shut off to the timer limit you have in options convenience and comfort

2) If you have the headlights in the ON position, put the car in park, turn off the car, open the door, the headlights wont shut off until 5 minutes after???

Can anyone confirm this? The manual wasnt great in explaining it to me.

Thanks ahead of time.

Anyone??

Basically my question is, do we have to have the headlights in the AUTO position for them to turn off according to the timer in options after shutting off the car??

I had the headlights in the ON position and shut off the car and got out and waited almost 2 minutes and they never shut off...

I guess I'm answering my own question here but I would love some confirmation...

they will only turn off automatically if you have them in the auto setting.. if you leave them in the 'on' position, they will remain on.

EDIT: I learnt the hard way.

i don't know if it's the same, but on my 04 coupe when you have it set to AUTO, the lights will turn off in 45 sec and if you have it set to ON, the lights will turn off after 5 minutes. might be different since you are asking for an 07 sedan.

I would hope that the lights would turn off in the ON position. That would be a glaring problem if it didn't. My 95 maxima had that deficiency and I needed to get jumped multiple times over the years.

Yes, headlights only shut off automatically if they're in the Auto position (hence "Auto"...).

I'm pretty sure the only reason your headlights shut off after five (thought it was 15?) min is that if the car detects a battery drain while it's off, it will eventually kill power to everything so your battery doesn't drain.

Ah thanks for the confirmation guys! Quite a shame that it doesn't turn off automatically in the ON position. Guess I'll have to live with it in the Auto position.

ya its kinda sucks auto on should be that they turn on automatically when it gets dark out light sensor. thats what our 99 corolla has, but then they shut off when the car is off. and also when the lights are ON then it should do the same thing as the auto mode wait 30-45 secs and shut off or whatever the you set it to. but they def should turn off just like the auto. pointless my last 96 camry did that all on its own.
