Custom Muffler Replacement

Here's a camera phone teaser shot.... I'll have more when the other side is completed and they're installed.

This piece slips on just like the OEM muffler, uses the OEM clamp and OEM hangers and has an OEM look tip.

It replaces this with no modification to the stock system besides carrying over the OEM hangers:

You gotta post the after pics, as well as the videos if you want attention.

With parts and labor it will be ~$450

$239 for parts (resonators, tips, piping, hangers)
$50-$75 for the 'v-band' time and materials
$150 labor for the rest of the project

It could be done cheaper maybe, but quality and OEM fitment was a major requirement in my request.

I'm confused. It looks like OEM, fits like OEM, so why did you put it on? Sound? Performance? Did I miss something?

It doesn't really look like OEM besides the tip... the 1st pic is the fabricated piece, the rest are the actual OEM muffler.

The goal with this is to look stock, improve sound, and maybe add a little performance. Full cat-back exhaust systems don't seem to make noticeable gains and cost over $1,000. If the exhaust is mostly modified for sound, why not just replace the mufflers? This idea mostly stems from the trial run I did with no mufflers on the car.

Since the canister on the fabricated piece isn't a muffler, but instead a straight through resonator, it should sound alot like running it w/ no mufflers but with the resonator in there to cure any rasp that might develop under different driving conditions.

Thats EXACTLY what Ive been looking for. Right now I had Meineke fab something up (looks like hell) just so the exhaust doesnt blast my bushings and collect under the car. If I can find a reputable shop to madrel bend some piping out of stainless and look like that to boot Ill be happy.

Cali G, how does it sound? Is there any drone, what does it do to the volume as compared to the stock pipe off and on?

Our schedules didn't match up right yesterday (he's coming in on saturdays to do this for me since I'm always stuck at work M-F when the shop is open)

I'll be out of town visiting family for thanksgiving (as will he)... so it looks like an update will be a ways down the road.

I'll just put up a new thread w/ real pics and sound clips when its done.
