Question Slight rubbing noise inside steering column?

I have a very new (750 miles) 2008 G35 sedan. I just started to notice a slight rubbing and rubbing noise when I turn the steering wheel. Feels/sounds like its coming from inside the steering column. I usally have the radio going so its the first time I noticed it. It is just loud enough that with the radio off the passenger can hear it.

Has anyone else experienced this? I will call the dealership Monday... don't know if this needs immediate attention or if it can/should wait for the first visit at 3,750 miles. Thoughts?

no but after about 6k, i started to hear a crackling sound as the telescopic wheel would move into place upon starting the car. not when i turn the wheel, only when the telescoping occurs. almost sounds like i have crumbs or sand in the steering column...which i know for a fact that i don't.

Unhappy

I have a very similar if not exactly identical problem. What is the rubbing sound like? Is it like two pieces of plastic scraping each other?

I notified my dealership when I bought my car in today to replace ICC. They told me they needed to order additional parts from Japan for the ICC ... and that they opened up the inside of the steering wheel and the steering column needs to be replaced. Going to get more info tomorrow, I hope it's under warranty.

Thanks for the info. Yes, it sounds like two pieces of plastic rubbing. I am calling my dealer today (needed to go to work the past few days so I held off calling). I was thinking I would wait until the 3750 scheduled visit but seeing your pos and earlier worries makesme want to get it looked at sooner, just for peace of mind. Please keep me updated on what your dealer finds out... thanks again!

I also just started noticing the exact same problem. I have about 3,500 miles on my car, and didn't hear until about 2 weeks ago.

Please keep us posted with the diagnosis.

Just got back from dealership. They examined the problem and said it was a problem due to the bearing lubrication connected with the steering column. According to them they can't do anything about it so they're just replacing the whole steering column (they will order parts from Japan and it should take 2 weeks).

On a side note, got my own car back. Feels good...

Quick update... brought the car into my dealer this AM. I just heard back from the service representative that it was simply an adjustment that was needed in the housing around the steering column. I will close out this thread once I pick up the car to make sure the noise is gone.

To close this one out (at least re: my noise), I picked up the car this afternoon and sure enough, the noise is gone. According to the invoice it was the steering column cover rubbing against the steering wheel; they adjused and reinstalled the cover.

I also had them install the rear license plate while they had the car (not the front... yikes, they need to drill the bumper for that!), and according to the invoice they also did a multi-point inspection and checked the tires for wear.

All in all, pretty happy with the service I received and very happy it was such an easy fix.

Just noticed on my 07 G35S. Called dealership and they tried to blow it off as normal sound.
I told them I am going to bring it in this weekend and have them check it out.
