i messed up...:(

I ordered the paddle shifters and when they finally came in i was so excited to install them that i tried to do so without the right tool...(tamperproof torx) I hate that screw but really i should have just been more patient... i had a friend of mine working with me and after finally getting them out he pulled on the steering wheel too hard and the clockspring mechanism popped out, the one that the DIY says "DONT MESS WITH THIS" well he told me he knew how to put it back and so he did. Long story short he snapped the flat wire that coils up inside it in half. Now all the buttons on my steering wheel obviously dont work along with the airbag and horn. I NEED MY HORN. I need help finding online the part i have to replace PLEASE help!!
Also the SLIP light is constantly on solid VDC is constantly of even if i push the button or unplug/plug battery....is it because these steering wheel wires are unpluged?????

Sorry to hear dude.... How's the thing pull out by pulling off the steering wheel? I took my wheel off with a pretty firm pull, but those two pieces weren't connected, the wheel came off by itself...
Well good luck finding the pieces you need, and hope everything works out

Wow, this scares me since Im about to do a steering wheel swap. I've studied alot of the procedure for doing this from little bits and pieces I've collected on here mostly and had otherwise thought this would be simple.

Disconnect car battery, wait 15-30 mins for airbag to release charge.

Using a security torx T30 bit remove the two bolts on either side of steering column (these hold the airbag in place)

Unclip plug and remove airbag

loosen bolt in center of wheel, pull wheel out slightly starting from right, left, top, and bottom angles

Pull loose the entire wheel to switch it out...

Is there any major details I might be missing in these steps. I also cannot figure out for the life of me how to remove the plastic back cover from the steering wheel to attempt to remove the Cruise control/ Music control switches. Any info on this would be a huge help...

There is a sticky DYI on how to add paddle shifters in the G35 07+ tech section. There should be enough details and photos there to help you do a steering wheel swap.

Good luck. It's not as hard as you think.

here ya go:

follow the link Lemodular posted. It's very detailed and I read it before i did mine, and there were no surprises.. Very simple, just make sure you have all the wires pulled to where the airbag is, the first time i did it i had a rubbing noise, I redid it to find out some of the wires rubbing in the steering column...

I don't think you guys are following... he said he followed the directions but messed with the "don't mess with" part...

i had a friend of mine working with me and after finally getting them out he pulled on the steering wheel too hard and the clockspring mechanism popped out, the one that the DIY says "DONT MESS WITH THIS"
The airbag clockspring mechanism is $60 at the dealer though. You can TRY to see if getting a new one would work, since your boy broke the wire.

$61.85 MSRP and takes 1.3 hrs to replace (roughly) and by the looks of it, you're half way there.

rule one, if you don't have the right tools, purchase them, or hire someone to do the work who has them. Sorry this happened you. Really makes me want to do the Works Bell paddle shifter kit rather than Zach's kit he is working on.

Those are dealership labor times if I ever saw them... It would take a one-armed monkey less than 20 minutes to do this...

Of course, a one-armed monkey probably wouldn't have broken the clockspring in the first place. *zing*

Enlighten me please

I see security Torx mentioned a few places. What is the difference between regular Torx and security Torx.

Thx.
