I have used Synthetic in my 90 Stnag Supercharged, and have no Problems burning oil etc..and my block has 140,000 miles! Now with my New G, I been using Regular oil for the last 3 oil Changes. and ready for my Fourth, I do it all myself. Now I want to switch to Full Synthetic Oil, But I hear Certain brands of Oil is Bad for the VQ series Motors?? Now is this reall TRUE? I would use either Mobil 1, Redline, AMSOIL, or Royal Purple. Now Is this all safe to use? I figure Synthetic Oil is Synthetic Oil!!?? And I am not really reading into the Full Technical words, that one brand is bad for the VQ series motors, and will make it burn oil etc....I never heard of one brand of oil is Mainly bad for ths Series Motor? I am new to Nissan Motors, so forgive me. But just want the true Skinny if these oils are really bad or not. Cause I need to change soon, and keep having these stories in my head. and my car has currenty 5000mi.

Here is where I learned alot about the oil for VQ motors:

VQ35HR 07+ Sedan Motor

VQ Motor in general, oil analysis

If you are really, really interested in the effects of the oil you are using in your engine, you can send your used oil for analysis to a company like Blackstone. I suggest reading those 2 threads fully and then come to you own conclusion on what oil you should use. Like its been said before, there is no bad oil, just some are better than others in relation to price.

I made the switch to Mobil 1 synthetic at my first dealer service at 5,000 miles. Brought my own oil but was told that I couldn't do it in the future and have to purchase the oil from them at $14 a quart

This is Ramsey Infiniti in NJ, doubt I'm going back there...here's me venting about the whole thing...

Drive it Like I Stole it On Syn

Drive it like I am qualifying or something. Switched to syn at 15k (Pennzoil), the marketing material sounded good. Not burning a drop of oil.

I really don't think it matters though, I used to use the cheap stuff..the O' Reilly's brand in my '92 caddy, and my mechanic said he's never seen cleaner valves in his life...and this car had 150k miles...as long as you change your oil before it gets dirty and makes your engine work harder...there should be no problems even if you use the cheapest $1/quart stuff.....
