get a synthetic oil change about every 4k even though the life span of synthetic is much greater then four thousand miles, i figured it can't hurt.... plus for putting a dent in my car and not fixing it right the first time, infiniti agreed to free synthetic oil changes for 2 years ....let them pay!

Im about to switch to synthetic on my 2nd oil change as well. I change it myself since i have access to a lift. I bought a lot of Mobil 1 0W-40 since advance auto parts has got an oil change special this month. 5 quarts Mobil 1 synthetic, any grade plus a Mobil 1 filter for $27. From what i have read about used oil analysis for the VQ35HR, German Castrol 0W-30 and Mobil 1 0W-40 are one of the top synthetic oils to use for the VQ engines.

I switched at 15K, dealer charges $60 for the synthetic which is way too high considering the regular oil change is free. I think they use base mobil1 syntetic at the dealer. I pick up Mobil1 Extended performance from wall mart with a mobil1 filter for $40. and the do the labor free of charge.

My G got 9200 miles now, been using semi-sythetic for 3 oil changes, plan to change to full synthetic at 10K miles.
Some cool dude named Lawrence who is a salesman at Southbay Infiniti told me so, he also told me about this site too, I forget his name but his avatar is Optimus Prime and a Premier member. He has a super fixed up 05' G coupe with all red interior.
Mobil 1 5 quart bottle $22 at walmart, EP $26. I plan to stock up, hmmm like 6 bottles which will be good for 30K miles. Because GAS PRICE is going up and motor oil is going go up BIG TIME very soon, hmmm maybe I should buy 10 bottles.

i had to make my, ummmm, 7th oil change today.
been on mobil 1 synthetic since the 1st change. i am a believer in synoil after tearing down a couple of my motors and seeing identical mileage(60ooo miles) on the same type motors, but one with synthetic and one with dino oil.
night and day difference. syn was SPOTLESS other than the nice clean glaze of honey color. but wipe it off and its pure aluminum. absolutely no wear or tear to be seen.
dino oil motor was a little more "sludgy" with a horrible burnt brown stain in it that took a whole lot of cleaning to get it out to a certain extent. some wear was noticed on the cylinder walls/bearings.
- on a side note, same goes for 93 gas and 87 gas. my old motor was BP93 with absolutely NO carbon builbup other than on the edges of the exhaust ports. even the cylinder top was shiny.
the other was obviously 87 with lots of carbon built up from the middle of the valve all the way through to the cylinder top and exhaust side.

OK, So whats the real deal? I hear all knds of stories that peeps posted in nthe forums for a while. I am getting Kinda Confused now? I have used Synthetic in my 90 Stnag Supercharged, and have no Problems burning oil etc..and my block has 140,000 miles! Now with my New G, I been using Regular oil for the last 3 oil Changes. and ready for my Fourth, I do it all myself. Now I want to switch to Full Synthetic Oil, But I hear Certain brands of Oil is Bad for the VQ series Motors?? Now is this reall TRUE? I would use either Mobil 1, Redline, AMSOIL, or Royal Purple. Now Is this all safe to use? I figure Synthetic Oil is Synthetic Oil!!?? And I am not really reading into the Full Technical words, that one brand is bad for the VQ series motors, and will make it burn oil etc....I never heard of one brand of oil is Mainly bad for ths Series Motor? I am new to Nissan Motors, so forgive me. But just want the true Skinny if these oils are really bad or not. Cause I need to change soon, and keep having these stories in my head. and my car has currenty 5000mi.

I don't think any oil is bad for an engine, but some oils contain more additives for cleaning.. while still not bad, it may be unecessary for a well built motor.
this site will provide more then you would ever want to know about oil
http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/
Unfortunately bob took down all of his fantastic oil brand analysis, which is very disappointing... now it's generic info. but still good.
my recommendation: Mobil1 synthetic. extended performance... you absolutly can't go wrong, and at the price it's a fraction what AMSOIL, RP or Redline cost and has equal performance.
