I need to know how the gas tank cap black plastic piece (rope like) is secured to the gas cover? Mine came off and I need to know how to place it back.
To clarify, the plastic rope like piece holds the gas tank cap to the car so it won't be detached when refueling.

 

A bunch of those were defective on the early 07's. The dealer will replace it for free. To answer your question, the plastic piece is held by a plastic fastener that has come off.

Mine also came off. No biggie. Dealer will replace, which I haven't done because it slips my mind when I take the G in for service.
