Eliminating y pipee?

Any negative effects of eliminating the y pipe and just going straight into the resonators? It just looks so restrtictive.

a crosspipe uses the exhaust pulses from one side to pull the exhaust pulses from the other. it's more efficient this way. think about all those domestic v8's using X and H pipes...they could just as easily have left the sides seperate.

The X/H pipes are only joined together for an inch or two. The y-pipe in the G runs for over a foot. I've also wondered if it's purpose and if it could be replaced with two straight runs of pipe for true dual exhaust.
