Lost a wheel balance weight

I just got a set of wheels/tires shipped to me and one of the 1/4 oz weights was floating around loose in the packing material.
I know it was on the wheel for a reason.... but is one 1/4oz weight enough to be concerned about?

I haven't mounted them yet, so I haven't had the chance to feel them out yet.

Thoughts?

I would think if the balancing machine can pick it up, it's needed.

These mods are supposed to be a fun experience. Sounds like it has been somewhat stressful for you.

I would get the balance checked out.

They're all the same size and they haven't made it on the car yet, so I guess it's neither.

1/4 oz. isn't going to be very noticeable but it shouldn't be too much to get it rebalanced. can you tell which wheel it came off of? there might be little marks on the wheel where it came off if you look hard. if you can find it, just put another 1/4 weight there. you can get them for cheap at AutoZone or any tire shop.

I'm thinking the problem will be fixed when you "mount and balance" the tires.

I know what wheel it's from since each wheel was packaged separately.
I can bring it to a nearby shop, but I hate the peons who work there.
I have to stand and watch them to be sure they don't screw something up.
Turn your back for one second and they're putting your wheels on with an impact gun.
Gawd, I hate the incompetent.
Eh.

Lose weight....?

Is there only one place in your town that does wheel balancing? If you don't
like the way they work, go somewhere else! I'm kinda like you, I want
professionalism for my money and the job done right.... Hate to watch a
monkey f^cking a football....LOL That's a visual, get it?

We have places on every corner but they all suck.... They're all chain stores. Nothing worth writing home about and I certainly don't trust them enough to take my G out back while I wait in the waiting room with a bunch of morons.
That's what caused me to buy in Florida and have them shipped.

Look where that got me... Lesson learned.

At least I got a laugh today. Monkeys and footballs always crack me up!

i would imagine it was balanced when it had the 1/4 oz. on there, so just put it back on, not a big deal. if it won't go back on for some reason, pick up another one at a shop, they'll probably give it to you and just put it on yourself. no need to go crazy with trying rebalance everything unless you question the competence of who balanced them, then recheck them.

when tires are mount to a wheel they need to be balanced. so since he ordered the wheels with the tires install they are hence "balanced". if he took it to a shop all three of the wheels should be balanced already and ready to mount to vehicle.

we use impact guns to mount the wheel on vehicle but as long as you torque it after and use a torque stick its fine.

Torque stick, exactly. Most don't use them or even know what they are.
I'll see what Charles at RX says and decide my next step from there.
