Braking Problems - 08 G35x

Hello everyone,

Its been a while since I posted a question on the forums but lately I've been experiencing some problems with my new 08 G35x. Every time I brake from about 40 mph (or faster) the car seems to love to jerk left or right. The steering wheel itself moves. Rather strange but I'm thinking its my alignment? Although I haven't hit anything, is there another reason why this could be happening? Another thought I had was is one of my brake calipers isnt engaging? Sorry I cannot be more specific but I don't know much about cars.

Thanks for reading and replys

If your steering wheel is shuddering only when braking, it's a brake issue and not a problem with your alignment.
This sounds like you have warped rotors.

My 07 started to do this at about 15K miles and I immediately knew the issue was the rotors. I brought it to my dealers attention and they turned them free of charge.
My argument is that you cannot turn a rotor that is running out of true and expect that to be a cure... it's a short term fix at best.
They agreed to replace my rotors if they ran out again before my warranty expired. I am now at 22K and I have the same problem, so they will be replacing them for me soon.

The OEM rotors on our G's suck. I'll be looking for a better aftermarket option as soon as I'm done taking advantage of the free rotors they are offering me.

Okay so if that is true. On my last oil change I asked them to check my brakes becuae of that problem. They told me nothing was wrong.

This is the same dealership that removed my bumper (front) and then refused to put it on back. Horrible.. Tim Dahle Infiniti...

At an oil change, they can only really look at the amount of brake pad that is left. Your pads may be fine but the rotors need attention.
Unless they are showing some serious grooves or heat marks, the mechanic wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at them.

They should have test driven it.

I've got 19k on my 2007 G35x Sedan and so far the dealer has replaced my front rotors twice (9k, 18k). The pads have over 50% wear left so it isn't my braking habits. The dealer stated to me that I'm not the only one experience the rotors warping (run outs) ... Infiniti knows about the large number of repairs associated with the front rotors. I was also told Infiniti usually only warranties brake items (ie: pads, rotors) until 12k but have extended the warranty repairs over this limit that so far. The question is how long will this last and if they are actually looking into a fix for the issue. It is not normal to be warping rotors every 9k, something heat dissipation issue is the root cause of the warping but why? Something with the material making up the pads or the material making up the rotors leading me to believe a quality issue.

Anyways I'm planning to take advantage of Infiniti replacement them for free every ~ 9k until they find a fix or will not replace them for free anymore. If the later happens I'll be going with aftermarket rotor from Cquence Motorsports's Extreme Cross model.

As others have posted, it sounds like your rotors are warped. My 2007 X rotors were warped pretty bad around 15k miles and they agreed to turn them for free. I'm now at 18k and the problem has yet to come back but I know it will. The pads have plenty of life on them and I have never tracked the car or done anything that would ruin the rotors. Unfortunately, the rotors on our cars are a major area for improvement.

The rotors should not be warping under regular use. There are several G's I do HPDE with, and they are all running OEM rotors without problems.

Are you riding your brake a lot?

Ok i have 21k+ on my original rotors and i have JUST started to feel the shudder and i know the rotors are warped, however rotors warp when they are exposed to sudden temp change, usually when they are very hot after a stop and go drive and then you put water on them.

Most rotors get warped with repeated trips to carwashes where the power wash your tires and spray your hot rotors with cool water from one side, and supposedly with rain its ok as it sprays water on both side(correct me if im wrong but thats what iv experienced and researched) hope it helps a few of you out there, key being let the rotors cool down before washing. THIS IS JUST MY OPINION!

I'll be changing out my rotors with stillen drilled soon, more money to spend

I have washed my G just the same as I have any other car I've owned in the past, and they never exhibited such premature rotor warping. I have heard that over-torquing the lug nuts can cause rotor warping, is that true? If so, I wonder if the mechanics at the dealership are just taking their air guns to it and not torquing them to spec?

How in the world are you getting your rotors changed for free!???

I was just at the dealers last week.. and at 36,000 km, ALL my rotors "apparently" needed to be resurfaced and my rear brake pads was at 10% left... so it had to be replaced.

so resurfacing of front rotors was 275 canadian dollars
resurfacing rear rotors plus rear brake pad replacement came to 490 dollars
plus the 150 dollar service at 36k
after taxes and all, my overall service cost came to 928 dollars!!!!!

is this normal?!? the rotors!?? warping!???? this early!??? :S

yes unfortunatley they are not the best rotors around, wes if you're looking to spend a grand, i would rather get aftermarket BETTER rotors that would not warp as the OEM, cause if you're spending $1000 just to resurface and new pads the rotors are going to be back like they were within 4-5k IMO.
