head unit shuts down

Came back from vacation and my 2007 G35x head unit is all screwed up. The head unit initially comes on (and the little infinti name and logo pop up) and then I hear a clicking sound like the cd changer sorting through discs (no discs in the player) and then the head unit shuts down and re-boots. Repeat this over and over, with each progressive "boot-up" being shorter and shorter until it is less than 1 second for each shut down and by this point the climate control won't function either. The rear defrost still works though.

Anyone had this problem? I'm sure I'll have to take it to the dealer, but if you guys had experienced it, I'm sure it would make trouble shooting easier. Thanks and Happy New Year.

Every once in a while my head unit will lock up or do something funny upon starting the car. It takes a couple of minutes to reset or do what ever it has to and when I restart the car its fine again. Its done it maybe 4 or 5 times in a little over a year. But each time it fixes itself.

Thanks. I was hoping I had the same kind of thing, but it seems to get worse, not better, each time I turn on the car. Doesn't seem to affect any of the other systems, but I'm afraid to drive it on the off chance that it does impact any important functioning of the car.

I added an amp through a line-out-converter, but the system shuts down whether the stereo is on or off - and an LOC takes the original signal from the head unit (at least that's my understanding). I've had the LOC for 6 months without a hitch, to boot.

It could be the hard-drive clicking...I've had hard-drives go bad on computers which could cause constant rebooting.

I think we may have a winner. There is a distinct clicking sound. The only part i can't figure out is why the time between "re-boots" seems to get shorter and shorter. Maybe the hard drive runs off some sort of isolated power source?

Funny if you look at the Consumer Reports relaibaility info the biggest issues with 07 G is the Electronics, seems like we now know why.

Sorry,Bro

The dealer near me said that if I'd even just replaced the stock speakers with better ones, I have voided the warranty. I think I need to find a different dealer.
