What is the metal mesh thing? Can i just cut it off?

Hey guys,

As you all know I got HFCs and there is this annoying hissing sound, and so car my quest to figure out what it is has lead me to this conclusion, disclaimer - my theory is not proven yet. Seems like it's this thing making the sound

the metal mesh ball thing

Seems like everyone with Cat backs don't have the hissing problem, and after looking at all the cat backs etc available, none of them have this ball thing.

does anyone know what it's for? can i just cut it out? What happens and is it okay to castrate my car's metal mesh ***** ?

Thanks in advance!

Video, you can hear it when accelerating and decelerating.....

If that was what was hissing, all stock exhausts would have it.
My money is on it being something directly related to the HFCs and not the stock components, since only the HFC folks have the hisssssssssssssssssss.

Sorry, just had to.

Okay I found out what these things do
"Stainless Steel Flex-Joints minimize chances of cracked manifolds or headers. Flex joints isolate vibration and save exhaust parts and gaskets by allowing movement in all direction"
So it might be better to keep them on, but it seems like FI and stuff don't have them.

I'm guessing this thing is making the sound because i was watching the flex joint with my friend pressing the gas, and the flex joint moves like crazy, wacking the heat shields and causing the y pipe to shake....

Imagine the movement you'd get if the flex joint wasn't there.

I know it could potentially be bad, but aftermarket sets don't seem to have it.

I would re tighten the cats and make sure the gaskets are good, the flex joint could be leaking but not likely

fi and such dont have it because the material they use per them almost never cracks unlike the stock systems so they skip on it
