incabin air filter question

Can someone please school me on what the purpuse of the incabin filter? I have an 07 journey with 31k miles. I think its time to replace it. Is there a DYI video or instructions on how to do it? What happens if the filter doesn't get changed?

All I can think of is poor air flow and in extreme cases, your ac compressor will freeze over

it also cleans the air coming into your car. allergens, dust, dirt, smells. etc.

should change it every 15k or so. moisture develops in the filter from the a/c system (normal air is moisture rich) can develop mold, and decrease the performance of the filter.

we've got nice a/c systems. keep it working well cause warranty doesn't cover poorly maintained systems... unfortunately.

^+10000!

there is a DIY video somewhere, maybe on youtube. basically you just need to disassemble and remove your glove box to access and replace the in-cabin filter. i changed mine at 15K as well.

^ agree with above infinitihelp.com instructions - one thing that's not mentioned is that you should remove the 2 plastic trim pieces (one below the glove both, one directly to the right). Both trim pieces snap off.

Search on youtube and you can find a video how to. I believe. Also to my knowledge the fx and ex and G have the same size airfilter. But the FX has a little better filtering. You might want to look into change it out to that. Rick probably can tell us if it is true.

I just installed a MicronAir carbon filter in my G, the FRAM version is on order for dad's 07 Accord. Will have a look at it when it gets here, the Amazon reviews were decent.

Wow I just changed my cabin filter and it was FILTHY (30k miles) There was like 2 small flys trapped in there to. I recommend definitiely changing it about 15k instead of the 30k like I did.

If anyone's interested, PM 'Christian', I think he has an activated charcoal one (the best kind) for sale.

Yeah, it can get pretty gross. And your recommendation to change it every 15k miles?..That's actually the manufacturer's recommendation.

2008 G35 Journey Sedan no sunroof
Is the size the same for 03-06 & 07-08 models? Some brands say same size fit both, some don't.

http://www.infinitipartsusa.com only lists 03-06.
