Paddle shifter or True 6MT???
Paddle shifter or True 6MT???
Hey everyone, recently I lost my 04' G Sedan in a collision, it was a great car and I loved driving it. I'm in the market for another G sedan but not sure if I want the S model with paddle Shift or a true 6MT again, I'd really like a 6MT but they are ultra rare and the one I really want (Ian's) is a bit out of my price range although I'm crossing my fingers
So what is the way to go? I know in my 04' 6MT was quite a difference in Power and feel compared to the auto is this still the case with the V36 (07 - 08)?

I havn't driven an auto RWD 07+ sedan, but compared to my dads old AWD 08, my 6mt feels faster and definitely pulls harder.
I'd stick with the 6mt if you enjoy driving it.

^+1 the power delivery is about the same but obviously you get less loss to the wheels and it seems the AT guys have some problems with shuddering tranny, test drive both and then its your decision at the end of the day.
im going to agree with kool yaar here... test drive both. paddles havent been around long enough for most of us to be very farmiliar with.

OK guys thanks for the info, ya I would like the 6MT again only thing is they are so hard to find. I'm really Hopping the one I want will be available at the right time if not its gonna be a boaring summer.
I wish I could have one of each. There's some days where I miss having my MT and there's other days where I just love my AT in Manual mode
This may be more of a 07 vs 08 thing and may have less to do with the MT vs AT.
The 07 pulls harder than the 08. That ECU update they made in 08 is just plain aweful. The 08's are numb in comparison.
Shuddering tranny? The only issue I've heard of is the weirdness of the ICC when going down a hill, but this had nothing to do with the transmission. In fact, the same ECU update was to fix this issue as well... but if anyone comes near my car with that ECU update, I'll hit them with a shovel. LOL

I am rather happy with my 5AT, it's not as direct as a full-blown manual (which, for the record i miss), but it gets the job done and can hold its own when it comes to aggressive driving. I have had no issues with the tranny *knock on wood*.
Aeson's comments are spot on. I did a LOT of research in moving to this car, I wanted the 07, would have taken an 08'. I had to go to Chicago for test drives of both because Minneapolis' car situation is a joke. Overpriced of whats to choose from here!
The 07 felt more alive. And with regards to the auto vs. manual, this is my first auto and its a good one. I came from all manuals before this, so it did take some getting used to, but I like it, especially during rush hours.
Not as much feed back as a manual offers, but in DS it shifts very very fast (my opinion), and in full on manual mode its better than a lot of other companies that I drove. Not the benchmark, for me thats a DSG out of VW.
So get what you want, but look at what you'll be using it for. Lots of rush hour my votes for the 5AT. I HATED the 7 speed. Blah! Ruined the car for me. When I feel the need I slide it over and use the paddles.

Thanks for the input guys. I ended up buying a 6MT from a member here, I'm loving it there is no concern for me about city driving because it takes me 10min to get to work and its more my car than the official family car I have an Avalanche for that.
