sunroof problems

Crap.

I opened my sunroof today and it looks like it came off the track or something. It's half open, and hitting the buttons does not move it either way.

I hear the motor going, if you press 1 it goes off for a bit, like it's tilting it, but the glass doesn't move. If you then press 2 you can hear it going again, so it looks like everything is fine and it's just the glass itself either stuck or off the track that actually moves it.

Sucks because I know no dealer is gonna have a loaner tomorrow, and I can't leave it half open just in case it starts snowing. I've tried pushing and pulling and all, to no avail.

Crap.

Anybody else has this sort of problem and fixed it on their own? I can probably do it, but I'd need to drop the headliner to get to the sunroof hardware.

The same thing just happened to me the other night. Now my sunroof is closed but tilted upwards on one side. I can't open or close the damn thing. This thing better be covered by warranty.

Actually I fixed mine a few days afterwards... it turned out to be the motor and not the sunroof itself. Apparently I shook one of the screws holding it in place loose -- probably too much bass -- and it wouldn't latch onto the thing to actually pull/push it.

I dropped the front half of the headliner and put everything back in place and I'm good now.

Hey there - I think I did the same thing. How did you get the head liner off?

check the service manual...

you have to remove the visors, the a-pillars, the b-pillars and the chicken bars to get to the front half enough to work in there. It's probably better to take the whole thing off, but that's definitely a whole lot of work.

****, same basic thing happened to me, was driving to work and tilted up the roof to get some air in, and it got stuck. Tried to lower it and it wont work at all. If i push the button foward, it makes a grinding sound, but push it back, and get NOTHING. Called Infiniti today and they didnt have a loaner so i have them calling me tom so they can hold one for me after work. Wonder how long it will take to fix. Other then the stupid rubber things that cosmetically hold in the sunroof, and the keyfab switch, this is my 1st problem.

Don't these cars have a manual procedure to shut the sunroof? My old Audi came with a hex key to close it in case of emergency.

Well dropped it off at INFINITI today, and i swear, i will always check this website 1st before i ever go to the dealer. It was exactly what was said in this thread, a screw had come loose and thats the reason the roof wouldnt shut. They found the screw, shut it and sent me off with a loaner for the nite. ( service was closed when i went) I will go back tom to retrieve it. You guys rock!

got a PITA rattle in the SR today....
Everything works fine. (open/close)

When the SR is closed it rattles (no radio)
opened either direction, it goes away.

I poked & prodded, but nothing obvious.
