side sill removal

Anybody taken off the side sills? The plastic piece that runs below both doors. I downloaded the service manual (the manual calls the sills a center mud guard) and it all looks pretty straight forward except for the removal of the clips on the back of the sill using a remover tool. What is a remover tool and are the clips reusable? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I have a 08 g35s.

If you have bicycle tire levers (or a buddy who has changed thier own tires) they are handy for this type work. I have used them sucessfully to do similar. They are pretty strong plastic that shouldn't scratch stuff easily....

Here is a link, but there are tons of brands out there:

I have half a bike shops worth of tools in my garage so I just grabbed one once to pop out the interior light lens covers and it worked.....

side sill removal

if you remove the side sills, must they be replaced?... or can I just take mine off?... I prefer the look of the car without them.

I want to self-install the illuminated kick plates, but I'm scared :P Any of you guys have experience with that, or should I leave it to a professional?

pretty easy but plan ahead you need a lot of time and patience, search for illuminated kick plates and you should find posts where i and others have posted hints and even some DIY pics and stuff.

I think these Side sills are actually refering to the outside side skirts...

Most guys claim it to be about a 30 minute install.
I installed a set on my car in the dark and a set on my friends 08 during the day.
Both installs took about 45 minutes, taking my time and making it super neat and clean.

It's not too tough of an install. Plug and play, just need to run the wires.
The interior trim panels just pop off and pop right back on and the wires run right behind the center console, between the foot wells.

Sweet. Good to hear. I've taken a few trim panels off (pain w/o the right tools) but whenever I see anything with wires & electricity I get nervous. I looked at some instructions and thought I had to splice wires. If it's plug & play then I'm down for that!

Thanks for the info and sorry to jack the thread. As far as side skirts go, is there a particular body kit that you have your eyes on, or are you just going to let it all hang out, Twang? :P

Sorry guys, read the whole thread again and I swear it sounds like we're talking about kick plate removal. Trim removal tools were mentioned in the factory instructions too!
