G35x Undershroud/Splash Shield

Looking at getting one of the Aluminum ones from Z1 Motorsports, but the style I like apparently isn't compatible with the X. I emailed them asking what made it incompatible and they were less than helpful and only said that it would take a lot of rework to make it fit and therefore wasn't worth the money to buy and modify one. I've never looked underneath a RWD model, so I have no idea what the difference would actually be. Any ideas?

I don't know exactly, but I expect the transfer case and propeller shaft have something to do with it. I'm pretty sure Tollboothwilly has a sedanX-specific version.

That would make sense for the Y-Pipe, but neither are anywhere close to the splash shield, even the front diff doesn't appear to cause interference with anything.

Anything different about accessing the oil filter through the convenient oil change panel?

I wouldn't call it convenient, but it's doable with the plastic shield in place.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant in the aluminum aftermarket shield. My understanding is they have a "door" that simplifies oil changes. Is there something about the AWD vs. RWD that would change that feature of the aftermarket shields?

Note my sedanX is now four years gone to insurance graveyard and I'm just throwing out ideas (wanted a shield but never got around to it). I'll shut up now and hope someone with actual experience chimes in to help you.

No worries, this is actually the exact info I'm looking for as far as fitment, they both have the drop down door. Since the one I really like supposedly doesn't fit the X, I'm curious why. I might go with the TBW shield in black, as the only other option I'm seeing only comes in polished aluminum. Unless of course someone chimes in saying there isn't really a difference and it can be made to work. This is the one I would like to get but doesn't fit:

And this is the only one I'm finding besides the TBW offering:

Got a reply from TBW:

The all wheel drive version of the G35 is different from the rear wheel drive version because of the suspension and the drive axles in the front for the all wheel drive. Due to this the chassis are different between the two models. this means that the design had to be different.

John @ TBW

Seems like there's a difference in the suspension and how exactly everything connects. Makes sense, was just hoping for more detail. Oh well, probably going to go with the TBW offering.

Get this one: https://zspeed.com/product/zspeed-in...splash-shield/

Specific to the AWD model and same price as Z1. ZSpeed is a real place - he's local to my area and is very active and well-respected on the "Ohio G/Z..." Facebook group.

I saw that one on Z1, and like it (albeit not as much as the Z1 offering) but it doesn't have an option to get it in black. I've thought about getting an aluminum one and spraying it with flat black plastidip as a protective coating, but I think I'd rather have the black shield that TBW has.

On his Facebook page, he mentions a black powder-coat option on the other shields he offers so he can certainly offer it on the AWD one, I'd think.

Cool, definitely going to look into that, thanks.
