Re: My 5AT sedan now has LSD!!

I have retained my stock differential housing (it's the same as the 350z, and the G35C) I added the ring and pinion from the 6mt cars, and the NISMO LSD (comes with new axle flanges). He changed more than what was necessary.

It's all good though...

I will indeed be there...

Frank:
It was a real pleasure to meet you at the December 27th meet, and all the other gents and ladies. The danger of such meetings of course is that you see terrific mods others have done and the mod bug fever begins to sweat the brow and temples. The LSD itch was already working on me, but now, I gotta do it. Probably go in before we make the trek to Monterey for the Laguna Seca run and have Jason and his team at Perf Nissan put it in. I have only met you one time and already I am going to be out a grand. You are an expensive date, buddy!

Re: My 5AT sedan now has LSD!!

Would it fit into a 5AT coupe? And how much did it cost you? Thanks.

Re: My 5AT sedan now has LSD!!

So does mine - swapped in the whole 350Z differential - the VLSD is enough for me - for now at least - but I suspect for good.

Re: My 5AT sedan now has LSD!!

Yes.

All you need to do is use the ring and pinion from the 6mt coupe, or the 6mt 350z. You can then put in either a NISMO LSD, or KAAZ. The "stock " lsd from the 350, does not perform that much better than what you have now. If you don't intend to do FI, you may be fine, just don't be too hard on it, it may not hold up.

The Nismo LSD will go in will no other mods needed.

Changing the complete diff is a waste of money since it is not needed. Your stock diff housing is the exact part you already have.

Jason at Performance Nissan can advise on the parts prices for the mods. Then you can either get the Nismo LSD, or the KAAZ.

Re: My 5AT sedan now has LSD!!

How much a clutch type LSD swap COST'S is far to import a question to ignor.

As mentioned, if you have have a AT car you will have to purchase a MT ring and pinion gear set, @cost $500. Another possible cost for the AT owner connnected to the right and pinion swap is the possible need to swap in a pair of bearings and seals for the ring and pinion gear set, @cost uknown, shouldn't top $100 however. Next is the cost of the LSD unit itself. If you go with the Nismo unit, it will save you around $400 in parts you'd otherwise have to add on to any other LSD brand. (Note, if your car already has a stock LSD, these extra parts are not needed). Cost for the Nismo LSD is $900
http://www.performancenissanparts.co...products_id=59

Normal install cost's are $400. This would cover removing diff from car, installing new parts and shims, then the final all important adjustment, then reinstalling finished diff assembly back into the car.

Math time:
$900 for Nismo LSD
$400 install cost
____________________
$1300 for manuel tranny cars
$500+ @cost for ring and pinion gear set for AT equipped cars
_______________________________________________
$1800 cost for AT tranny equipped cars

If any other brand of clutch type LSD is used, vs the Nismo unit add in $400 for stub axles, bearings and seals on any car that does NOT have a LSD from the factory.

Re: My 5AT sedan now has LSD!!

As I've said in the past, had I known in advance, that my cost's for installing a oem viscious limited slip were going to be so high, I absolutely would NOT have done the swap, I would have done a clutch type instead. My cost's were.

$100 (cost for viscious unit, thank god that's what I paid!!!)
$300 (cost for stub axles ment for LSD equipped car)
$100 (bearings ment for LSD equipped car
$12 (seals for above bearings)
$400 (total cost for install)

So my total cost was $812, yeeesh, for only $500 more I could have installed the Nismo LSD. Plain and simple the Nismo unit is worth every penny of that $500 difference. Yes VLS is better than an open diff, but a clutch type is a more effective slip limiting devise, has to do with how they differ and work.

Re: My 5AT sedan now has LSD!!

Is there any shop in the Pacific Northwest / Seattle area that can do this install besides the dealer (if they can even do it)? I have a 2004 5AT sedan so I would probably be in the $1800 scenario going with the Nismo LSD. Also, is the $500 6MT ring and pinion gear set cost for a new or used set?
