Ticket on the way back from vegas

Wow guys im so angry, i can barely calm myself to type this. I borrowed my friends V1 for my trip to vegas and i was cruising back on the 15 north to los angeles going about 80mph and the v1 goes off so i slow down to 65 and up ahead is a cop. i pass him and a mile down i see him coming up behind me. I go into the carpool lane and start driving. My friends were both sleeping in the car and so their heads were down, which kinda made it look like i was the only one in the car. he pulled up behind me so i decided to get out of the carpool lane. I wait for an opening and then merge into thru traffic and right then the ****er turns on his siren. As soon as he does that my friends heads pop up and he gets on the loud speaker and tells me to get off the freeway.. I thought that was weird because it felt like he was trying to buy time to make up another thing i did wrong. So i finally get off the freeway and he comes up and says that I merged out of the carpool lane over th edouble yellow.

I got so furious and told him that that wasnt true, and that i saw hiim coming up behind me so i cruise controlled 65 mph and just drove in the carpool. And he knew i saw him so why the hell would i merge out in a double yellow. and he says "I wouldn't give someone a ticket for something they didnt do", so i replied that I would see him in court and took my ticket and drove off...

Any ideas on what the [censored] i should do.

Wow... The cops have been out in full force this weekend. We saw what, 7 on the cruise? And 1 intimately?

Go to court- you've got passangers that will attest to both you merging legally and the cops "buying time" behavior. I don't think the latter's paramount, but every small bit helps. Make sure you know exactly where you got it, and see if you can get a pic of the road markings. Good luck,

The thing is it was on the 15 about 2 hours out of vegas.. its a very long drive out from beverly hills to go find the exact spot. I really don't know what to do, but i just hate crooked cops. He saw a kid in a red sports car and wanted to give me a ticket before i even did anything wrong :/

The best thing you can do is show up on your court date and if the a**hole doesn't show, the ticket is thrown out. If he does show, than ask for an extension.

alright thanks for the advice. what happens if he shows up again the next time? Am i better off just pleading guilty even though I know im not. Don't know how much court costs if I did lose.

It won't cost you more than the original ticket. You have nothing to lose. Do NOT plead guilty.

Re: Ticket on the way back from vegas

Just to let you know.. I doubt he was buying time asking you to exit the freeway.. its more likely that it is dangerous to be parked on the side of the freeway so they quite frequently just pull you off the freeway so everyone is safer.. Im sure we've all seen "real video" of the close calls..

As far as the ticket yea its pretty much a he said/she said.. cause crossing the double yellow aint really proveable either way.. just a "yes i saw him do it" from cop and a "no i definetely did not" from you..

if your friends can go to maybe testify for ya that you didnt.. might help who knows.. sucks how far out it was though might make going to court cost-prohibitive since its prolly during the weekday.. prolly have to take off work, drive how many hours during weekday traffic just to hopefully get out of it.. just gotta way it all and see whats gonna work out for ya

You gotta watch the 15 between LA and Vegas. The cops are always out there, especially on holiday weekends. Outside of Barstow is where they caught me speeding. A V1 wouldn't have helped, either.. they had an aircraft out that day.

that's why i run a beartracker BCT7 with my radar detector, it monitors the 800Mhz & Air patrols.

btw.. the white stripes on the meridian are 1 mile apart, so they watch to see if it take you 65sec in between. if you get a ticket cuz of a plane clocking you...... don't make a big fuss over it, especially if the officer says that you were clocked by a plane.. that's the best.. never warn them you'll see them in court. They make a mental note of it and wait for your summons.

Just chill and go to court. The officer in the plane was the witness to your breaking the law. If the pilot (or spotter) AND the ticketing officer do not BOTH show up, the case is dismissed. Since there are fewer pilots/spotters, they rarely go to court as they cannot spare the time being grounded.

Another thing you can do is to request a change of venue if it is far away from home. That rarely works, but you never know.

Lastly, BE PREPARED! A year ago my wife got a ticket for making a U-Turn in front of a local Fire Station. She actually made a 3-point turn. I make it a point to look at EVERYTHING on the ticket. If you are interested on how to take a lying officer down a notch or two in court, check out this PowerPoint presentation I made for the wifey (careful 1.5MB).

Her day in court went something like this:
WIFE: walks in, officer snicker and point at her.
JUDGE: Goes thru 15 other cases, all guilty, gives them traffic school

Judge calls Officer in wife's case. Tells the judge she made a U-turn, blah blah blah.

Judge calls 90lb 5' tall wifey. She presents the Judge with color copies of presentation and prepares to plead her case.

Judge pauses, reads...asks wifey to give officer a copy (which she does)

Looks at the officer and says, does this ring a bell?

Officer: umm, ahhh ummm

Judge: Little lady, looks like you've done your homework. CASE DISMISSED

All the other officers laughing at the guy who gave her the ticket. The wife came home all angry cuz she didn't get to say anything!

LOL... Cheers, ted

Re: Ticket on the way back from vegas

65 seconds for a mile is 55mph. The speed limit on the 15 out there is 70, which is a little over 51 seconds.

(I had to fix your link.. the forum software choked on the spaces in the filename. Use %20 for each space next time.) Interesting presentation, I'm sorry your wife didn't get a chance to speak. Unfortunately for me and my ticket, the only error was listing my Desert Platinum car as "silver," which isn't much of an error in the bright desert sun.

Re: Ticket on the way back from vegas

So your wife broke the law, and you got her out of it, good job. So, the cop stuttered and the Judge rules for your wife? OK. But at least your wife (you) did prep, most people don't.

BTW, he said his friends were sleeping, they aren't witnesses.

Actually, if you'll look at the presentation, his wife in fact did not break the law. Excellent presentation of the facts of the case.
