Makes "racing for pinks" take on a whole new meaning....

I'm for it. They just need to hurry up and build a motorsports complex in San Diego....

In Oakland, they passed the law about 2 years ago to allow impounding for 60 days, I believe. But the street racing and large gatherings still occur and we have news reports every month or so about injuries/deaths related to them, usually when those involved run away from the cops and crash into other vehicles. If you ask me, they should have the cars permanently confiscated rather then just for a month or 2.

That was a problem in San Diego, too. It still is, but not nearly as bad as it used to be... and here's why:

There is a need for more of these laws. Fatals on the street from racing happen all of the time. Just from my little corner of the world:
1. Friday, 6/27, 1:30AM, a Mazda misses a turn on Alhambra Valley and hits a tree, 1 dead at the scene, 1 helo'd out, two others by ambulance.
2. Friday 6/27, 4:35PM, a Corvette is racing a Mustang on Bear Creek. The Corvette hits a bump (on a staight), gets airborne, goes up an embankment, rolls twice, 1 dead at the scene, 1 injured. The police are looking for the Mustang (left the scene of a fatal accident - what an idiot, the cops are going to nail him).

Re: Council Approves Law to Confiscate Street-Racing

Started this past January as a law in Florida, you go to jail for the night plus lose your car.
Don't mind the law so much. What gets to me is the fact that they closed or want to close so many tracks because they want to develop the land or complain about the noise and the "Types" of people a drag strip attracts. Give me a break, get off your damn liberal high horses and take a good look around!
More tracks will not prevent ALL the Street Racing but it would sure cut back on a lot of it.
My .02. Peace.

I agree.. put the law into effect, but make sure you have local tracks for everyone, especially those cities notoriously known for street racing.
