*COSTCO GAS PUMP PROBS*

I was pumping gas today when the attendant came up to me and asked if I've ever had probs pumping at Costco.

I said, "why yes! The damn pump acts like the tank is full when I get up to 10 gallons or so."

He said Costco has been having poblems with only G35's because of our tank / fill pipe design. It supposedly has a severe drop and turn that other cars don't have. and becuase costco changes their pump filters to maintain a steady 10 gallons per minute pump, it causes a back pressure that fools the sensor..

If you have this problem, turn the gas handle 180 degree from the position you normally hold so that the handle is "upside down" this will by-pass the back flow pressure sensor and allow you to pump. However IT WILL OVERFLOW if you do not watch how much you are pumping.

Just thought I'd pass along the "fix" for the costco gas pump issue.

cheers, ted

Re: *COSTCO GAS PUMP PROBS*

I have asked the Costco gas attendants where they get their gas from and he said they get their gas from the same refinery that puts out Shell, Mobil, and Chevron gas. I have no problems with Costco gas, and my wallet is not complaining either. I actually committed a huge crime last week, I put Citgo Premium in my car since it was only $1.99/gallon... *gasp* Oh, and yes, I've had the same problems with the Costco gas pump!

I receive 5% cash back on my American Express card at any gas station, so might as well be Costco and get some cash back as well..

Re: *COSTCO GAS PUMP PROBS*

Costco was at 2.09 for super the other day....what was shell?

2.29? 5% back that around .11 1/2 cents per gallon...hmmm doesn't compute. Still down by .08 gallon +, i use my AMEX and get 3 points for every dollar I spend.

Re: *COSTCO GAS PUMP PROBS*

I've never had a problem with the Costco pumps.

TYGWOFN: Why do you say Citgo is bad? I used to use them almost exclusively when I lived in Texas. They don't have many stations in California, though.

Of course, I hit the Arco-AM/PM stations frequently, too, and don't have any issues with their brand of fuel.

Re: *COSTCO GAS PUMP PROBS*

I just always thought the Citgo gas was a par below the other brands of gas. I also used to pump Citgo into my Honda when I lived back east. This time it was in Cerritos, right by the college. The station just opened and as there grand opening special they had 87, 89, and 91 gas all for $1.99/gallon. So of course I had to go fill up at that price!

Re: *COSTCO GAS PUMP PROBS*

Yep........I've had the pumping problem at Costco on several occasions. Even once at a Union 76 also.
I have a coupe. I've used Costco gas in my other cars and never had a problem with pumping - only in the G. I believe it is the car not, Costco, so, what's up with Infiniti? Don't they know how to make a gas tank?

The Costco gas itself has seemed to work the same as any other gas I have used in my G or my BMW 540. I tend to believe it comes from the same place other gas comes from. Costco does not have its own refinery! Maybe certain additives are different, but they are different between all of the brands.

Re: *COSTCO GAS PUMP PROBS*

Citgo isn't as popular in CA, but it's all over the place in TX. I never thought of it as inferior. It's the "Save a Buck" and "Joe's Pump N Go" type stations that I avoid.

Re: *COSTCO GAS PUMP PROBS*

oh yeah, i absolutely avoid those places as well. the only time i fill up there is when im driving a rental car and there's no need to spend good money on someone else's car.

Re: *COSTCO GAS PUMP PROBS*

My question is that why does it always stop at 60% full gas tank. I have had the same problem at 76, Chevron and Mobil. I am getting pretty sick of it. Every time, it wont let me go beyond 60%.
