Volk GT7 Gunmetals

Hey guys (and gals?) first time posting from a new member here. I saw some pics of Narkotic's ride and I am now forced to put some new rims on my DG 6MT. I haven't ever bought aftermarket rims before having just started making some real cash after graduating. Anyway, I want to do 19" x 9.5" back and 8.5" in the front. Since you all amaze me with your knowledge of offsets and speedo changes and everything under the sun, I have 2 quick questions.

1.) What is the best size tires for the front and the back that will keep me from looking "lifted" cuz I dont wanna have to lower the car if I can. Also, I want to keep as close to the factory OD as I can to keep my speedo straight.

2.) Has anyone seen a better deal than $2000 for all 4 out the door, free shipping (no tires obviously). I live in Dallas so it has to be a local or internet dealer.

Thanks to all. I am pumped as hell!! Late.

Re: Volk GT7 Gunmetals

the standard tire sizes that are used are 245/35/19 for the fronts and 275/35/19 for the rears, BUT...in your case, if you do not want to lower your car, which is recommended with 19's (and don't think the "so-called" VDC is an issue) I would recommend going 255/35/19 in the front instead - that way your tires will fill the wheelwells a little better and you'll have a little more rubber to work with

I am waiting for someone to try this setup because that is what I'm leaning towards right now - and NARCOTIK (sp.?) do you have in more pics of your ride, like a further away profile shot? thanks...

Re: Volk GT7 Gunmetals

Awesome. Thanks for the info, man. I really appreciate your time and help. I am thinking now that I should just sack up and lower it, but I don't want it too stiff and too low to the ground. What is the best way to drop it enough so that the wheel well gaps are minimized but keeping it from being a total go-cart? Narkotic said that his was dropped a bit cuz the front looked too high. I figured that some Eibachs that go down about and inch or less should do the trick, but being a rookie, I would take any advice I was given. Thanks again to anyone who takes the time to gimme some quick advice!

Re: Volk GT7 Gunmetals

about the height of the car with rims. Measure the car before and after you put on new rims.

I measured the ground clearance at the center of the front bumper and then the top of each wheel well to the ground.

The rear was raised 1/2 inch and the front was 3/4 inch with 285/30/20 rear and 245/35/20 front. So now I have to lower it at least that much to get the car back to stock height.

Look into a camber kit first so you don't get a lot of tire wear.

Thanks for the comments guys. 2g's on wheels isn't too bad of a deal..thats about what I paid. The rear of the car sits nice, but the front just has too much of a gap. Using eibach springs woudln't hinder your camber too bad, for $200 you can buy some new rear camber rods and get that perfect.. the guy that developed the camber rods is developing new front arm adjusters for front camber as well.. ETA november ...

Ova,

What size rims and tires did you put on? I think they look great. What are you thinking about doing for lowering your ride? I am curious to hear what other people are doing. Coilovers sounds like the best way to go, but I dont want to spend over a grand for this. See ya.

Re: Volk GT7 Gunmetals

thanks buckeye.

my rims are 20x10 in rear with 285/30/20 SO3's
the front are 20x9 with 245/35/20 SO3's.

this was the first weekend driving around with the new setup and actually getting to feel how they handle. At first I missed the feeling of the stock 18's, but now I'm loving the handling of the SO3's.
A lot of times I would mash onto the freeway and get a lot of wheel hop and lose tracktion. Now I'm firmly planted to the ground and no more wheel hop.

Going by past experience I'm not just going to go with a set of eibachs. When doing your suspension it's best to replace everything, the shocks and springs together. Since the HKS LS hipermax don't have a ride height adjustable shaft, I'm probably going to go with a set of TEIN. Make sure you get a camber kit for the rear at least. G35 coupes have a lot of rear camber stock. With the 20's on I'm noticing the camber a lot more and see where the tread is scuffed on the tires. About 3/4 of the outer tread isn't being touched. You can install the camber kit yourself. After allignment the whole suspension is going to cost about $1800. That's with just the rear camber kit.

Re: Volk GT7 Gunmetals

The ride height IS adjustable with the HKS. The dapening force is NOT. The Tein Basic system I have is exactly the same, only it is a stiffer suspension. And way cheaper.

Nark,

I have a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and I love your name. Anyway, how does the TEIN coilover system adjust height? What steps are involved with it? I don't really know alot about them, but they seem really badass. Let me know when you have a chance.

Waiting payday for my Volks......
