E-brake replacement

Don't ever let anyone else drive your car. Period.

My mother took out my old SHO and put on the E-brake when she parked it. She then drove it again for about 30-45 min and had forgotten it was on. I know this is a different car, but I figured this crowd would be the most knowledgeable-- what am I looking at? She said she tried to engage it later, but it wasn't stopping the car from rolling while in N. Thanks,

Re: E-brake replacement

it sounds like you will be needing new rear brakes, pads and disks. the e brake is basically a cable that is attached to your rear callipers that engages them, so i am sure your pads are gone and your rotors are warped, if you do it yourself it could be anywhere from $100-200 depending on what rotors you get, i would sugest going after market not oem.

Re: E-brake replacement

I agree to go check out the brakes and if they do not need replacing (hopefully) then the e-brake and rears just need to be tightened.

It's still a G thang!!

Re: E-brake replacement

Sorry, thought you were talking about a G35, this should be posted in the other cars forum.

Re: E-brake replacement

Yea you have to check the way your car uses the e-brake. Some use a drum style where the e-brake has a seperate shoe for use as a brake and then there are the e-brakes that use the regular brake pads. The cable just manually pulls the pads onto the rotor instead of hydraulic pressure. It being a ford I'm assuming that it's using the drum style where it has the shoe inside of the rotor hub. I think that's how you would describe.

Re: E-brake replacement

I'll check it out. There appears to be excess dust on the front left wheel, and my mom said the front was "smoking" when she brought it in from her e-brake cruise. I've hidden the keys to her FX to punish her.
