wider tires on 17s
Re: wider tires on 17s
if you have the stock 17" rims for the coupe, the widest you can go is 245.. if you realli want a wider stance, i would jus go with aftermarket rims.. that's what i did..

Iiu69 is right, however I know of no tire maker that makes a 245/50 tire in a 17" (the largest size you could use). In fact I know of no 17" wide tire made that has a 26.7" OD, the OD you would need to match stock. A 275/40 measures 25.7" (too small an OD). You would lose the stagger, and the wheel/tire combo would look funny in back. If you were to use the 275/40 tire, you would need a 9.5" rim. 1.5" wider than what you now have, otherwise you would have substantial side wall buldge - it would not be safe. You would need to move to 18s of you wanted to go wider
Re: wider tires on 17s
Advantages- more grip for launch, less tail wag
Disadvantages- less neutral handling, no tire rotation (maybe side to side depending on tires)

Re: wider tires on 17s
thanks for the input. & you're right about the 245/50-17. I do see a lot of 245/45-17s.
If I go with these, I understand that will 'overstate' my odometer somewhat; but aside from that, there's no compromise on performance or safety, right?!?!

GrandMaster's right - There are some. I didn't do a search, should have. Sorry. Not a great selection, but there are some. The best buy seems to be the Dunlop SP5000s. I just bought a set of SP9000s for my 18" Nismos. Nice handeling tire and a good buy. The best handeling tire in the list would be the Michelin's, but I don't know if you want to spend the money, and they might overpower your front Goodyears. However, if you did get the Dunlops you could never get a matched set, 225/50s front and 245/50s rear. The only tire that you could match would be the Michelin Pilot Sport AS (I did do a search). Don't do an "H" rated tire. 245/45 would work, but they would destroy the stagger and upset the VDC. Since they are an inch lower in the rears, they would look funny (too small).
