Opinions? Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position

Time for new rubber and this product is getting good reviews on Tirerack. I like my Michelin A/S but these are a bit cheaper and ranking higher. Anyone with experience or thoughts on this tire? I also like the price of the Avon 550 AS but I've heard they get loud after 10K and I don't know how they compare performance wise. Size for me is 235 50 17. Thanks for your input.

Great tires, at a fraction of the cost of the oem Michelins. cant beat the 40k mile warranty either.

More good reviews about the Avons including a great road test on Tiretrack.
You pay more for the 960AS and I think all you get is a little better treadwear.
Yoko Avids are another way to go. Similar to Avons but don't handle quite as good, but very quiet and soft-riding if you want that (according to TR).
I miss the crispness of the stock Mich Pilots but not the noise or high replacement cost.

The 40K warranty is a nice benefit. I'd like a little more input from G owners who have tried the Avons. I guess I don't know where the Michelin's fall in the road noise category. Sounds like more than the Bridgestones but maybe less than the Avons? Thanks for the input so far. More!

Well, they all tend to get noisy as they wear. But of course, HP summer tires will likely be the worst. Worse for treadwear too as would be expected.
I think Avons make the best compromise for an all season tire. They ride a little better than the Mich pilots and are MUCH quieter. They still handle very well. Others might have a little more treadwear, or softer ride, but for the price I like the Avons a lot. You can check out experiences, surveys, and tests on all these at tirerack.com

They are made by Cooper tires for a small volume market. That's why they presently only sell them through Tirerack. Probably trying to establish a rep.
But I've never heard anything very negative, mostly all positives, and now they've been around a while.
Most negative, they are heavier than most the competition. Not a good track tire, but plenty of good handling for the street, but then that's what they are designed for.

I went with the Avon 550 A/S after reading through the reviews. Lots of Gs and Zs and others liking them and a good price. They should be here today. I'll let you know how I like them.

i haven't seen alot of options in that tire size. i think pilot sport a/s are the only all seasons in that size.

The most important parameter to many is wet braking/handling and tire rack has data results for many of these tires.

ALSO Statiscally results for 250,000 miles [960AS] may not be valid compared to 6-15 million miles for Avon and Michelin Pilot AS.

10 customers vs 600 customers reports...........one needs 25 samples to be valid.

That's what turned the corner for me in selecting Avons. I am usually very skeptical about owner's surveys on various websites, but sheer numbers with similar comments tends to hold some water.
The road tests are nice support info too.

"SP Sport 01 and SP Sport 01A tires are are not intended to be driven in near-freezing temperatures, nor through snow or on ice."

Summer only.
