lowered with 19" keeps scraping

I have 19" Volk GTCs with Eibach springs and anytime I come to a steep curb or high speed bump, the bottom of the car will scrape the pavement. This is the worst sound ever. Can anyone tell me what part of the bottom of the car is scraping and if it is damaging anything? Everyone with a lowered car must be having the same problem. What do you do about it?

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

I scrape my rear mud guards the most, and th pipes at times.

Solution, to raise it a bit, but it's going to cost ya.

Well there is your answer "Eibach springs" its not the greatest suspension setup you can have on any car not just the G. How low is your car? You might want to check your differential you can crack those babies on hard impact. I think there is a skid plate underneath just before the dif it might be that. It's always good to check it now before it's to late.

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

There are plenty of people who scrape in non-lowered cars. The thing to remember is the way we drive over these obsicles can be part of the cause of scraping.

I know this sounds silly, but don't forget your car is lowered. You have to constantly be aware of bumps and pits while you drive. Go REAL slow in and out of driveways and over speed bumps.

Try to learn to go over these at an angle, not straight on. Really, it helps. The scraping often comes while the spring compresses after the tires have when completely over the obsticle.

i scrape at stock height going over dips, but I have a oem lip. Usually if you have a front mudguard, that scrapes.

FALSE. Where do you get this misinformation? As far a quality goes Eibach springs are superb. I have used them on my own vehicles for many years without ever having ride quality issues, handling issues, etc.

Perhaps they are not the BEST setup, but coilvers are in a completely different class. (A few hundred dollars for springs vs. a few thousand for coilovers?)

The G is low to begin with and the key is to hit driveways and similar obstacles "sideways". (A technique employed by the seasoned driver of lowered vehicles) Plus it's easier on your car to go more slowly over speedbumps, etc.

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

Superb springs? I beg to differ. I don't how many times I've replace springs and shocks not only on my cars but others as well. Ever since eibach's came out there has been nothing good about it. No matter what combination shock or eibach spring setup I do it does not handle or ride well. If you read the first post it only says eibach springs not coilovers. I personally don't like coilovers so I can't really say anything about them. I have installed a few of these on other peoples cars but I never really rode in a car that had one. I never hear from these people after the install so I guess they are happy with it. To each his own on this eibach spring setup I for one, hate it. This and this reason alone will prevent me from installing any eibach brand products on any of my cars. Call it stupid or bias but I don't want to repeat bad experiences. I'm glad that you have a different expereince than me when it comes to this brand of product.

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

that's why you go with 20's and don't lower the car.

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

I have 20's and I'm still going to lower the car. It is way too high now. 3/4 inch higher in front and 1/2 inch in rear. I'm only going to lower it about 1.25 in front and .75 in the rear. The rear gap isn't bad at all, but the front is massive.

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

what difference does it make if you go w/ 20's or 18's... You're still using thinner tires to match the original diameter of the stock tires so we don't mess up the VDC. The front end of our cars has this nasty gap that just HAS to go...

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

Eibach springs are very well-made springs..........they make one of the best on the market. However, one must take into consideration the problems that come into lowering a car. The problems w/ spring alone setup is endemic to dropping a car and not to Eibach. The comparison should be made w/ Eibachs to other spring manufacturers and not by personal experience w/ the springs. By lowering a vehicle, the ride quality will nominally diminish, but handling characteristics should improve. There's always a double edged sword when you're making alterations to your vehicle. Here's a question for those w/ much experience w/ suspension systems:

-Have you ever tried a Ground Control setup w/ a 2" drop? Ride's harsh to say the least. Very noisy when going over potholes, speedbumps, or uneven road pavement. I've been in this industry for many years and I've seen so many blown shocks because of the POS suspension setup that many people go w/ because they're cheaper.

Personally, I would recommend anyone w/ the $ means to go w/ a coilover setup.........particularly from Tein. If you go w/ just springs, your shocks won't last very long. Then you'll be spending $300-$400 more for new shocks.......not including labor costs. In the very end, one could've went w/ a complete suspension setup and save a lot of headache and time............both priceless.

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

whos to say your shocks will wear faster, it depends on the quality of your shocks, my previous car was lowered with springs and i drove it for 6 years, and the springs held up perfect with no problems, so to say it will happen-maybe, but in 2-3 years, buy some good shocks like konis or kyb, still much cheaper than coilovers, whos to say the coilovers dont go bad, what then? buy more coilovers? not me.

Re: lowered with 19" keeps scraping

In addition to the traditional spring and shock set up. Springs like H&R and shocks like Koni or Bilstein has a lifetime warranty on it. Even if you blow them they are replaced for free. I don't know about coilovers if it has the same kind of coverage as far as warranty is concerned. The only time you need to pay for anything is when you have it removed/installed on your car. In my case I work on all my cars so I don't really have to fork any money.
