When upgrading to new wheels...

...what does everybody with TPMS do for installation?

I'm looking at new wheels for the week-old 07 G35.

Tried finding more information on how the TPMS module is attached to the wheel, but didn't find any information on the web.

Normally I would take my new wheels to Discount Tire and have them do the swap. Are stores like Discount Tire willing/able to change out the monitors to the new wheels?

Also, looking at my factory wheels, the valve stem is definitely not your usual piece.

I'd like to hear from someone with TPMS that has swapped the factory wheels.

John

i haven't swapped my factory 19's, but from what I've heard, tpms sensor can be transferred to your new wheels, they just have to be compatible (just ask anyone who has the wheels you want to buy); you can also buy new tpms & have dealer synchronize them with your car (for a price ); if they don't fit, they you just have to drive around without it & the tmps sensor will always be lit in your dash (_!_)

Any reptuable shop should know what to do. If they don't you are in the wrong place.

When I swapped out my wheels it never came up in discussion. I know my sensors are working cause with the real cold weather coming in here in the NE this past week it's been buzzin off on my dash....lol

ive swaped my tpms off my oem 19's to 19 adr m-classics and it worked fine. the tire shop just said it was a hassle to do, but told them to do it and it wasn't my problem, i think he didn't like doing it, but boleny it works fine. and if you decide not to do it then every 30mile and up the light will lite up thats all nothing wrong with your car.

search my350z.com; in DIY I think there's a thread with pics on how to take your factory valve-stem TPMS sensors and mount them to aftermarket wheels with steel ribbon clamps. You have to re-calibrate afterwards IIRC

(Edit: here's the link http://www.my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=186197)

Its unfortunate that the 07 has such an interconnected system that involves warning lights and warning displays, becaues on the 07 Legacy you can take out the bulb from the dash and call it a day. Oh well.

You can order a new set of sensors from tirerack but that will set you back more than $300+
