HRE wheels

I don't know what all the hype is about. From everything i've seen, HRE's are the most overpriced wheels out there. I've heard to many bad stories about them bending and cracking to recommend them. If you do get them make sure you don't get chrome because HRE's chrome is notorious for peeling. Check out Iforged and CCW for other less costly atlternatives with similiar style.

there is absolutely no truth to HRE wheels breaking or bending on the track. unfortunately, that rumor was started by a customer that was unhappy with HRE's service. if you are able to find pictures of HRE's that are broken, they are probably the old cast (not forged and machined) HRE's from over 10 years ago. there was no engineering support then, and were not intended for the track. Currently, HRE is one of the few companies (along with BBS, Fikse, Etc.) that actually do any type of testing on their wheels. every single wheel style is designed and analyzed with a computer program, and after the wheel passes the computer analysis, that exact wheel is built and sent to an independent testing facility. the wheel is tested for a specific load rating, and if it fails, the trouble areas are redesigned. HRE does not advertize any of this, because it is expected by the customers.
HRE wheels have had extensive track time by their customers, and no problems have ever been recorded. bent rim inners and outers are certainly possible, however, from hitting big potholes and debris on the roads. this can happen to any wheel, though.
Unfortunately, rumors run rampant on forums and it is only hearsay. if you are in the wheel industry, you know the truth.
HRE wheels are the highest quality wheels manufactured in America.

I was planning/dreaming/hoping to get a set of HRE Competition series wheels for my G as part of my build project plans. I became concerned when I continued to read this thread and saw the info about HRE's not being track worthy. I wondered and doubted how such a prestigious brand could maintain such status if their wheels were really crap on the track.
I still plan to do my own independent research about HRE wheels so that I feel completely confident in making an informed and FACTUAL decision. I may be a newbie, but if there is anything that I have learned in the last month on both this site and on my350Z.com is that you have take what is written on these forums with a grain of salt.
