TPMS in 20" wheel

TPMS in 20" wheel
Question for you guys with 20” wheels and TPMS. Do I mount the sensor back into the valve stem hole if I am going to aftermarket wheels? I’m going from 18” to 20” and was wondering if there is enough room in the tire. I wouldn’t want to smash a $100+ sensor if I hit a pothole. I've heard others epoxying the thing back in there and using a standard valve stem.

It depends on the design of the wheel and where the valve stem hole is on the wheel.
Some 20's will accommodate the TPSM's and some won't mounting in the valve stem hole. Same with some 19's.
My 20's do accommodate them, but they are by far not the popular choice here on this forum. TSW Thruxon's.
I've hit some fair size potholes with no TPSM problems, but could be luck of the sensor not being at the point of impact, idk.
Hmmm...epoxying sensor in the wheel...interesting. Never thought/heard of that. Sounds like that should/could work.

I’m looking at DP Engineering LS5 which is a 2 piece spoke design that can accommodate the TPMS sensor. I just don’t know if there is enough clearance inside of a 20” tire when re-using the stock TPMS sensor that is stuck through the valve stem hole. That is why I am thinking about turning it on its side and attaching it to the wall of the wheel and using a standard valve stem. Good to know you haven’t had any problems.

i didnt want to drill into my wheels and didnt bother with banding them to the wheels. so i, like plenty of other people on here with aftermarket multip-piece wheels, am running without tire pressure sensors.
i have the 20" DPE ls5- I installed the sensors using a band i made.. i'll post pictures when I get home. 500 miles so far... no problems.. Fastest speed i've gone so far is about 85mph.
I can make you 4 bands for all your wheels for $50. I'll even post up a DIY. Takes about 5 minutes to install. It's similar to the HRE band that sells for 100 dollars but much better- people had problem with the HRE bands.
it's a good idea to run TPS because if your tire pressure is low, due to the low profile tires, it's not really noticeable when flat.

I have banded TPS as well. They're still fine after 1 season of driving and up to 110+mph. Just take your time making them and installing them. Also get a trusted shop to install your tires over them.
