Volk GT-U's

I'm thinking of replacing my stock wheels and keeping the stock tires. I've found some Volk GT-U's in an 18x8 with 29mm offset. This sounds perfect, but I was wondering if anyone has these wheels? At nearly $500 a piece, it would be nice if I knew that someone else had tried them and they worked out ok.

Oh ya, it's for a 6MT Coupe with the Brembo's.

When it comes to Volks, you cant go wrong! If you can budget the $$$, then do even bother shopping around for another set!

Re: Volk GT-U's

why are volks better? is it just the name? or are they just the absolute best? if they are, what makes them better than say,....hre, bbs, racing hart, ssr, advan, nismo,...

just wondering what makes them so good in your opinion.

Re: Volk GT-U's

Volk wheels are very well constructed and are very high quality. Now you can't even compare Volk Wheels to HRE's as HRE is probably the highest standard in today's market. BBS is comparable, but their target market/construction of wheels are generally different. They are mostly a one piece wheel.

All of those companies that you list are all very high quality wheel manufacturers. Volk Racing however has always set the standard in two or three piece wheel designs that are extremely lightweight and are of the utmost quality when it comes to finish and abuse taking. I personally have owned 3 sets of Volks in my life and each and every set have been extremely lightweight and extremely durable.

Racing Hart is a fine example as well, so long as it is not the RH Evolution line - those are a tad different than Racing Hart themselves, but the market has already saturated and tainted the name of Racing Hart.

Re: Volk GT-U's

They should be fine, however one of the reasons we change wheels is to fit a wider one out back, for a wider tire than stock. If these rims are 8" all around, the widest you can go in the rear will be 255/45/18. You can then run the 245/40/18s in front. I'm not sure, but the +29mm in front my not clear the Brembos. I'd feel safer with +25mm. A test fit wouldn't hurt.

Re: Volk GT-U's

I'd love to have wider tires, but if I did that I'd just jump up to 19's like everyone else. Seems like that gives you more options, but I just don't want to spent the $3500 to do it right.

If I can get by spending $2k on some new wheels and keep my existing tires, I can spend the $1500 on other toys.

Re: Volk GT-U's

Volk racing or The Parent Company RAYS Produces the Finest Wheels in Japan. They make the Wheels for many Factory Racing Teams. Nismo (Or Nissan Racing), Mugen(Honda Racing) and I believe TRD (Toyota racing) And Mazda Speed all get their Wheels from Volk/RAYS This to me says a Lot about their Quality. Racing Hart is Crap. I had racing hart C-2s on my Last car and They Bent almost every time they hit a bump. I Should know something about Wheels Because I was the Warehouse Manager / Assembly Tech Of EPSILON WHEELS Of those of you who could remember these wheels From the late 80's and early 90's I have GREAT respect For HRE But in my eyes they are Great Wheels But TOO Expensive. this Leaves VOLK Great Quality at a Decent Price..... I myself have Choose VOLK GTC's In 19 x 8.5 and 19 x 9.5 for My G

Re: Volk GT-U's

Nismo,

Did you have the actual Racing Hart wheels or the RH EVO one piece C2 style wheel? Racing Hart from Japan and RH EVO are two separate entities even though no one believes it is. Racing Hart of Japan has absolutely nothing to do with the RH EVO line that is designed and manufactured by a US base company. Those wheels aren't the greatest in terms of construction, but actual Racing Harts are.

Re: Volk GT-U's

I understand, and I agree with everyone else, that Volk (Rays) make the best quality wheels in Japan, and you can't go wrong if you choose one of their brands. But, I guess unlike everyone else, I went from 18" to 18". For me, it was the right thing to do, from a looks/performance trade off. I really don't like the looks of the 19s or 20s. but that's just my opinion. I am attaching a couple more pictures of my 18" Nismos. BTW, when I did this, I sold my old wheels and tires for $1,150.00. Thay had 5K miles on them, that is something to consider.

My Out of Pocket costs, including the sale of my old wheels and tires, along with the purchase of the new wheels and tires was something along the lines of $1,500 to $1,600.
