Anyone ever try 255/40/18 on stock sedan sport rims?
Anyone ever try 255/40/18 on stock sedan sport rims?
There are no tires in the 235/45/18 size that I want to run on my car. There are a number of good options at 255/40/18 which measure very similarly on the tire size calculator height-wise and only .75 inch wider. But I could not find any info on anyone trying this size. I would rather run a slightly wider and shorter tire than a same width taller tire if I had a choice. Local tire shops haven't been much help. One said no problem another said it would mess with the stability control/abs/etc. I would replace all 4 tires. I want to keep an OE look so my other option would be to by the coupe 19" forged wheels and put on some michelin PS2's - but now were talking $2,000 between rims and tires for essentially no gain. One of my NCT-5's has a broken belt and at any highway speed it feels like the car is going to come apart so I don't have much time to decide. The NCT-5's still have more than 60% of their tread left so I could just replace the backs, but I didn't like them the first time and don't want to buy any more of them - especially not at over $300 a tire which is the going price around here.
Any thoughts?

Yeah - I saw that too. I figured someone had probably tried it anyway.
I guess I will probably be getting the 245/45/18 Michelin PS2's. I just hope the car doesn't look and handle like a truck. I am tempted by the Eagle F1 GS-D3, but am put off by the 'good year' on the side of them.
