Any advice on new tires for an '05 5AT Sedan with sport tuned suspension? What brans...looking for great performance with low road noise. Also suggested alternatives to the very pricey $799 30K service?

 

To reduce the service price do as much as possible yourself.

As for tires you have lots of choices. Go a bit wider for some performance gains. Do you want all season or summer tires. Not sure how much performance you are looking for.

 

on the tires, looking for performance with low road noise in a summer only climate (Arizona)...the heat here is tough on tires.

 

+1 on DIY... The only thing I had them do was ATF flush & refill... everything else had already been done. Even for all the items listed in the svc manual the price you were quoted is WAY too high!

As far as tires - your price point will determine that. I like the Toyo T1R... there are a good tire for the price - however, I went even less expensive and got Kumho Ecsta ASX... I've been relatively pleased; they are another good value for the dollar.

How much do you want to spend on tires? And why do you need them already? I replaced mine at around 30K too but I easily had 10-15L more life in 'em.

 

My dealership was only around $300 (everything but the oil change and the AT flush).

 

I was thinking about $1,000 for 4 tires total (mounted/balanced). I actually have 35K miles on my car, rear tires are bald...probably the way I drive + the heat/road conditions in Phoenix, but 35K isn't bad.

 

yeah...according to Edmunds maintenance guide, the 30K service sould run $370 total...i'll have to go to a private (non-dealer) with the list because all the Phoenix dealers are quoting high.

with your price point you have a lot of option for tires... the Pirelli P-Zero mentioned above is a good tire - I ran it on previous car... I would go Toyo T1R - I like the aggressive tread pattern and it's a very good performing tire.

I looked around a lot and found there was more selection and better pricing on 245/45/18's. I found the Hankook Ventus K104s for $139 each locally and decided to try them. ($700 out the door for a new set of tires, mounted and balanced plus an alignment was pretty attractive...) My initial impressions are favorable, but the G35 is a new car to me so I don't really have a basis to compare them with anything else. It's a summer only tire so I'd expect them to work well in your climate. If I were planning to drive the car to it's limits, I would have chosen something else, but I think these will be more than enough for going back and forth to work.

 

I just bought a 2005 Sedan, 5AT, sport with about 27k miles. Could you elaborate on what service is expected at 30k miles? Also, I've got Dunlop SportMaxx on my 18" sport wheels.....very pleased, and I believe they are sale at tirerack right now.

 

^30K service should be in your owners manual I still have a long way to go for my 30K service but I will definately take my car to some place else to get the service done for the most part I have pretty much changed out a lot of the components they go over (mostly inspection items) but I am sure the service is $$$ here in Hawaii. I had the Toyo TR1 on for about 8k miles and I didn't like them they are noisy I switched to Bridgestones off of a set of M45 rims and they have been 10X better than the Toyos they offer great grip and NO road noise at all.

Edit: it didn't keep the 30K interval - use the pull down and enter 30000 for the info you need.

at 30k i would do a trans, rear diff, and radiator service along with the oil change and incabin filter...no reason to be cheap and not do some preventative maintenance
