is it safe?
Re: is it safe?
For all of you who keep posting is it ok, or is it safe, or can you, install tire X on rim width XX, why don't you just see what the specs for the tire in question are? I don't mean to sound rude, but it's such a basic and simple task, that seems to be always overlooked.
Most tire manufacturers (well at least any worth putting on a rim and the road) will state what rim width each tire will work within. Its thats easy!
For example, with most 275/40-18 tires, they can be used on rims from 9" to 11" wide, with 9.5" being the industry standardized measurement. So would I put that on a 8.5" rim, no.
With 255/45-18 tires, the majority are designed to work on 7.5" to 9" wide rims with 8" being the industry standardized measurement. So this one I would consider.....
