I recently purchased General Exclaim UHP tires. They are great tires and relatively inexpensive. They also look great. I'd check them out.

The first number usually indicates the width of the tire and the second number is the height and the last is the size of the tire.

The reason it might look like a truck tire is that you only have 17's. I have the same tire size, and I think they look ok on the stock wheels, but your 17x8 probably doesn't help. DO NOT change the profile unless you are getting bigger wheels. Bigger wheels will help the look A LOT! BTW 235/35/17 will make the speedo run a 10.8% faster than actual. When your speedo is showing 60mph you'll be actually going 53.5mph and every 10k mi. you'll be adding close to 1100 extra miles to the odometer. Use this calculator to help you.

Miata Tire Calc

BTW I have a set of 18" coupe wheels I need to unload if your interested.
