tire noise

Love my new G, but do think the tire noise (a musical hum, or ongoing, repeating "du-duuummm" harmonic sound on most freeways) is a bit much. Been told Bridgestones are quieter than the Goodyears, but could it be anything with the car? Dealer says its normal. Hmmm.
Edited by otismobile on 01/11/04 06:35 PM.

Re: tire noise

this behavior is very tire dependant - research on www.tirerack.com to find an alternative ... and maybe you might consider other tire sizes so as to have a broader selection

Re: tire noise

Thanks. It's not awful, just a little surprising. I'll check out that website.

Re: tire noise

Infiniti told me that my front 2 tires had flat spots after i told them about the humming sound that only appears to come when i'm on the highway. So i called Michelan and they sent me to a local place for replacement. Try calling the tire manufacturer if your tires are still new and you wont have to pay the pro rated price

Re: tire noise

My last car, Mustang GT, had Goodyear ZR's on it they were rather noisy, when I replaced them, I got BFG KDWS's, what a huge difference, they were so much quieter, those GY's had me thinking I had something wrong with the car, sounded like a bad rear-end at one point!

Re: tire noise

I had good luck with the KDW's in the past but the cost is nearlly that of the PZero Nero M+S and it is cheap for the ratings it gets on the tirerack. I currently have 225/50 17 Pilot A/Ss and I am getting rid of them after 11k beacuse of the noise. They still look like new but the noise has gotten worse as time has gone on. Maybe I am just less tolerant of it but I am going to try the Toyo Proxes4's to see if they are any better. The price is better 98 bucks for 245/45 17s from treadepot.com.

Re: tire noise

Good call. I'm seeing the dealer today; I'll mention what you said.
