If i get aftermarket 20's, does it make the tire pressure sensor stop working?

 

only if you don't transfer over the sensors. if you don't, the warning light will go on every now and then.

Do most wheels have TPS capabiity? What about Sevas or Ruff Racing wheels? I am looking at either S-Stars or Ruff 281's

 

most do not, but you band the sensor to the barrel of the wheel

 

I have some Volk GTAV's on order, and, after talking with my dealer service mgr. he informed me that the sensor is part of the valve stem assy and that it is no problem to take my old sensor/stems out and install them in my new wheels, mentioning that that do install lots of aftermkt wheels and have no problem installing sensors and getting them to work with whatever wheel a customer chooses...
Dealer does want approx $350 to change out my wheels, install and register the sensors.

I was also told to make sure the original steel valve core is there and they don't substitute a brass one. The brass will cause a malfunction.

 

mine is on all the time, but i dont care cause i monitor air in tires constantly, nasty mistake i shouldn't have made in previous car...

The sensor is part of the valve stem assembly and there is a slight bend in the valve stem. The key to proper installation is where the valve stem attaches to the wheel. The wheel needs the valve stem to exit out to the side also there needs to be enough room for the sensor inside the rim rather than exiting from the lip portion of the rim, this would place the sensor in the middle of the tire which would break if the tire would go flat. If the second scenario is the case then banding would solve the problem. The valve stem as nothing to do with the sensing of the pressure that's why banding does work fine.

IMO, the dealer is totally out of line. I had my sensor put in my aftermarket wheel for no charge although some tire places charge $25-$35 per wheel. They charge this because of the possible damage to the sensors. Why would the dealer have to register the sensors because they are the same sensors that came on the car?
