For those who use winter tires

Hey folks.

I live far enough north that I need winter tires. For obvious reasons I don't want to use my regular wheels during the winter (17 inch wheels). Does anyone know if I am better off going with 16 inch wheels and bigger tires for the winter, or should I stick to 17 inches and pay the extra dollar to find a 17 inch winter tire (16 inch winter tires are a lot cheaper and easier to find).

Has anyone put 16 inch wheels on a 17 inch car? Does it affect it in anyway (except for the look)?

Best to use Tire Rack to see what size you can use.

I always thought the smallest size you can use in a G ia 17".

As long as the wheels clear your brakes, you'll be fine... Since you said your regular wheels are 17", I assume that means you don't have brembos. With that being the case, you'll notice your spare tire is 16", if I remember correctly.

As long as the tire you choose has the same rolling size, you'll be fine. You can google Tire Size Calculator, and enter in your stock size, and you can figure out real quick which tires will and will not work.

My stock wheels are the 18", and I went with 17" for the snow tires/wheels. They work just fine! Either 16 or 17 would be fine as long as the 16 will fit over the brakes. Go with Tire Rack, I agree. That's where I got mine--mounted balanced and delivered.
