Lowered Cars?

You folks that lowered your cars, how are they handling the snow (if applicable)?
Even with the stock G35 height, several times this winter, I've found that I drag the underside of the G on some streets, especially after heavy snowfalls. Now that much of the snow is melting on the residential roads after our 'deep freeze', the ruts from the wheel tracks make many parts of the road quite high with snow that I end up driving over VERY carefully!
In Edmonton, almost no snow before Jan 12. Since then, we've had 67cm (>26") and expecting another 5cm tonight. The City has finally decided to grate the residential streets (which they don't normally do) at an additional cost of $3.5 million CND!
Anyway, any thoughts of lowering the car or different springs I'd have to very carefully consider.

Re: Lowered Cars?

Gord,
"Mountain" installed the JIC system and he loves it so far, still needs some fine tuning though.
My suggestion to you is to install some sort of coilover system as well, this way you can adjust the ride height, lower or higher than stock.
This way you can adjust for those HIGH snowbank days. We adjust for floods down here is Florida.

Re: Lowered Cars?

The JIC system makes the car handle like a true race car. I am still in shock how tight the car is. Dont expect to maintain the nice lux ride you had before. Also, it is adjustable ride height from -1" to touching the ground!

oops...almost forgot.....how would it handle the snow.....if rain traction is any indication, it is worse then factory.

Re: Lowered Cars?

Maybe you need to adjust the damping. You do have 15 way shock adjusts so you probably have it on pretty hard.

Re: Lowered Cars?

Is the ride height adjustable "In flight" or do you have to get under the car?

Re: Lowered Cars?

so you are saying that this JIC system is not good in the rain? If so what is a good system that performs like the one you have but u can also use to drive in the rain.

Re: Lowered Cars?

You do not need to get under the car to adjust ride height but you do need to remove the wheel to get to it. I have played with the dampening and it is on the softest setting. The system is a race suspension not a luxury suspension. I think because the system is so tight there is less weight transfer which makes it easier to break the rear tires loose. Also keep in mind I still have tuning to do. I am taking the car to a 4 wheel independant scale so I can balance the attitude of the car. Keep in mind I lowered the car and if I did not maintain the factory angle of the car then there may be more or less weight on the tires. I will know more when I get a chance to get the car to a scale.

I wanted a car that could run with the handling of a corvette or M3. I feel the JIC suspension has accomplished that. My brother has an M3 and he drove my car and then started shopping for a coil over system for his car.

Re: Lowered Cars?

Safest coil over suspension kit for our cars would probably be from HKS Hypermax LS (Luxury Sport). It lowers the cars height while giving it a sporty ride. If you are auto crossing, then this suspension may not be the best, but I feel is the best for everyday driving along with a lowered ride height.

Re: Lowered Cars?

It is not only the suspension kit that completes a system, you have to take into consideration the tires as well. Especially when it comes to driving in the wet.
With the coilover kits and their infinite adjustments you can dial it in for any situation, once you figure out what adjustment does what.

Re: Lowered Cars?

mountain, did you get the progressive springs? I've spoken with JIC and a rep. They said the progressive springs will give it a nice sporty ride for street conditions.

JIC are very nice, I like how they keep the same travel no matter what height the car is.

oh ya, how's the cambering? Do you think an adjustable camber is needed for the amount you lowered the car?

Re: Lowered Cars?
