TGMcCoy.........what tires did you go with?

I'm about to do the same thing and want to know what tire sizes you ended up using in the pics? Thanks.

The usual. 245/35 front, and 275/30 rear.

I'm not sure, but these are pretty cheap rims (Stern ST1) and I figure they're heavy. The tire I went with(not sure about weight) are the Yokohama AVS ES100, which where cheaper at tirerack.com than the Kuhmo SPTs. I figured Yokohama has got to be better than Kuhmo, although many reviewers didn't like them so much. After about 50 miles, I think they're ok so far.

Spedo difference?

I'm showing a 275 /30 to be only 25.5" diameter which is only .2 from being a full inch below the stock 26.3" tire using the calc below. How does this effect your speedometer?

Other may now the answer to that question, as most of the Dub Club around here have the same size tires as me. I have no idea how it effects the speedometer myself....

Just wondering if

Could you have fit a 275/35? It would have been the same size as stock and what I'm looking to get if the extra sidewall will fit with a +35.

I can't say I get it

Considering that Your 275/30 has to turn 24 revolutions(and thats a heck of alot more engine revolutions) more than the stock tire you replaced to cover the same measured mile, why would anyone who pumps $ into extra horsepower put on a smaller tire and take away all and probably even more than they have gained?

what do you mean by smaller tire? i drive around on my 20's b/c it looks good and the 275/30/20 gives the adequate traction i need on the street...

on the track i will need a smaller tire to get more traction if thats what you're talking about

I mean

The diameter of the tire (from the street to the top of it) is smaller than the stock tire was. Your 20" 275/30 is fine and only a fraction smaller than stock, but a 19" 275/30 is nearly a full inch shorter than stock in term of overall diameter. Smaller there will cost you gas mileage, performance and give you faster wear & tear. Absolutely no advantage to running a smaller rear tire diameter. Some think a 275/30 is the same diameter no matter what wheel size you run, but a 30% sidewall on a 19" is 1" shorter than on a 20" measured from street to top of the tire. Anyone running a 275/30 on a 19" is literally robbing horsepower and killing gas mileage to the tune of having to rotate the tire an extra 166 feet(24 revolutions) per mile over what was there stock (215 55 17).

Make that

A fraction larger on the 275 30 20, it's 26.5" compared to 26.3" for stock. The 275 30 19 is only 25.5" and of course there are small variations in each brand.
