Tiresss!! 2

Hey, I'm looking for new tires for the spring that I can also use in winter that are equal in performance to the stock G35 Sport Sedan but much wider in the back and a little more low profile.. I have a few recommended sizes from Tire Rack but dont know how to tell width and the hight of tire here are the two, which one would I get? 225/55-17 or 245/50-17
.... Thanks There are the Falken Ziex ZE-512 that is recommended for the G, its all season and 225/55-17, is this good for performance? And is it a good increases in width? Thanks alot people iLLG - Martin

235/50 17 are a perfect match but you have limited choices and they are pricey.

Re: Tiresss!! 2

The stock size is 215/55R17. The 215 is the width of the tire in mm. The 55 is the height of the sidewall, as a percentage of the width.. in this case, 55% of 215, or about 118mm. The 17 is the rim size, in inches, of course.

You want the overall diameter of the tire to be about the same as the stock tires, to maintain speedometer/odometer accuracy, among other things. A tire size calculator can help. Optional sizes that are within the acceptable +/- 3% off standard and fit the stock 17x7 rims are 225/50R17, 225/55R17, 235/50R17, 245/50R17. 235/50R17 is the closest in diameter to the stock size.

It should be noted that Infiniti officially claims 225 is the widest that will clear the suspension in the front of the sedan. People have been running 235 with no trouble, and a few at 245.. though that may or may not be pushing the envelope.

The best all-season performance tire available with good dry and wet performance that doesn't suck in the snow is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S. It's available in 235/50R17, though it's pricey. Many people like this tire.

Depending on where you live, those in really snowy climates accept no substitute for dedicated winter tires during the white season. In my climate (Sunny SoCal), summer tires are dedicated to getting you through the "winter" without a problem.

Re: Tiresss!! 2

People have been sayin 235/50-17 and 245/50-17, the 235's are a bit much with hardly any selection, the 245's there are a lot of but high in price also. What's wrong with 245/45-17, I found the all-season Falken Ziex's that i wanted in a 225, but I found them in 245 can I use these??? Thanks iLLG

A 245/45R17, if you check the specs, requires a 7.5" to 9" wide rim. The stock rim is only 7" wide. Some people have done it anyway, but you're a hair outside the manufacturer's specs. I wouldn't do it on my car unless I was going to spring for some 17x8 rims to put them on.

Re: Tiresss!! 2

Well, my knowledge comes from where you're now getting your knowledges.. reading forums and tire sites. Take it with a grain of salt. Just because I wouldn't do it to my car doesn't mean it's a bad thing.

Plus there's the difference between normal street and autocross/track driving. If someone says it works fine at autocross, then that tire's being stressed harder than it would ever be on a street. So, if you're keeping your car on the street, I'd say you'd probably be fine there.

Read everything you can, make your decision, and stick with it.
