Camber Kit and Tire Wear

I know camber kits are usually unnecessary unless one has some suspension work done. However, I was wondering if a camber kit would help prevent the cupping and very quick tire wear the coupes are known for, even if suspension is stock (which mine is). I don't know much about the kits, but it would seem that if you could reverse some of the negative camber, it would help.

Yes it can help some with the uneven tire wear in the front if you get a good alignment done with it. It allows for camber adjustment which the front end doesn't have.

Camber kits often allow you to achieve the NOMINAL [preferred] camber numbers instead of just being inside the warranty wide numbers.

Tires are designed to not exceed -0.7 and really like no more than -0.5 camber.

The problem is that static camber is sitting still and the wear occurs from rotation and is different at different speeds going straight. Turning is another different case as very difficult to measure tire camber actually turning or at speed.

Alignment is actually intentional MISALIGNMENT that was tested and derived in the design phase to work ok with the tires rotating...........when rubber bushings wear and develop slop new alignment numbers need to be calculated.

Some camber kits may not allow you to make the maximum adjustment you need to offset the negative camber. Unfortunately you may not find this out until you have gone through the expense of purchase. Is it really worth it just to lessen your front feathering? Even if it might help, you may not be very happy with the loss of better handling. Our funky front ends are sort of built into ownership of the Coupes. It's sad but true.

Let me thread highjack for a moment.

My wifes feathered like a ***** on her stock tires. We threw some 20" Sevas on there with Falkens and Im scared its going to happen again.

She's lowered on Tein S Springs currently. Do you think picking up SPC front A-arms would correct this potential problem from re-occuring?

I have still been waiting to hear from anyone with a camber kit mentioning that since their installment the feathering has either disappeared or lessened after 7-8000 miles.

If your car is lowered, especially on a more aggressive drop such as the S-Techs, tire wear will be accelerated compared to stock without camber kits.

Tires wear out on the inside with just the stock suspension. More negative camber increases the problem.

I have the spc front camber kit, but i'm still way out of spec without the spacers. i'm not going to put the spacers in because i'm afraid of the abs and slip lights coming on from what i've heard. i have the rear spc camber kit also, but i'm barely in spec. i'm sure my tires will wear prematurely. i'm lowered on tein basic.

With all the threads about tire feathering, anyone who can make the fix for our Coupes will have a captive audience!

Its a Tein S drop. 1.2 front I think. I cant raise it, only make it stock again. Thats not an option right now.

Bocatrip, your right. NO ONE has stepped forward to say the arms actually worked. Id be interested to see what the parts suppliers say.
