winter tire size

I have done some searching but can't find a definate answer. For winter, what size tire will fit on my stock 18's (front and back sizes if different)? I would like to fit the skinniest, and largest sidewall possible that won't give me any issues. tire rack only recomends 2 different tires so i figured id just go to a store and check out what they've got.

on a side note, if i were to get new rims, do i have to install the pressure sensors? they shouldnt affect the vdc at all right?

thanks

225/45/18 Dunlop Winter Sport M3 on all 4 corners. Haven't had a problem. Of course, I'm not gunning it from one stop light to the next. You have the right idea of getting the narrowest tires. It does help in snow but doesn't do you well on those warmer winter days when you forget you're still riding on a winter setup.
