Widest track 8"
Widest track 8"
What is the lowest numerical offset for an 8 inch rim that someone has that doesn't rub. Either 17 or 18 inch.
I want the widest track possible, looking at the cool chart, looks like something in the 20mm offset range would work??

Re: Widest track 8"
Real important to label threads like this, coupe or sedan. Thankfully your profile says you have a sedan, but not everyone puts that info in their profile. What tire
size would you be running on 17" and 18" rims?

Thanks!
SEDAN, either 245/45/17s or 245/40/18s
Want best SCCA STX performance, can't go more the 245 tire width or 8" wheel width, offset and diamerter are not restricted

Re: Widest track 8"
Ok, sorry I didn't revisit this post till just now, I do have some constructive imput.
I know from calling Enkei (maker of my rims) that they went out and measured a sedan for fitment. On the rear if running a 9" wide rim and 38mm offset with 245/45-18" tire, that combo allow's a scant 2mm clearance between the tire and fender lip.
Now, what does that mean to you, your planning on 245/40-18 on a 8" side rim. Well, if we take the same offset of 38mm, add the 8" rim, plus the 245/40-18 tire. That combo is 1/2" or about 12mm further inbound. So in theory you should be able to run a 26mm max offset on the rear (I'd consider 30mm as the min, to play it safe. Since the 245/45-17 tire is the same height or rolling diameter, it would be the same. Keep in mind that this only applies to the given tire size.
What about the front, well I honestly don't remember what Enkei said. But I don't think a low offset and 245mm width will work. If I recall they used 225mm on a 35mm offset and I wanna say it was really close. Honestly, my 245's in the front (245/40-18 on 8" 45mm offset rims) are really close to the fender lips in the front. I would not run less than a 40mm offset on 8" rims with 245mm tread width in the front. Enkei's phone number is
1-800-327-2507, give them a call and tell them you were thinking about RPM2 rims for a sedan and you heard they have precise fitment info for the G35 sedan. They are extreamly nice btw.
Here's a web site to play around with to see where different tire and wheel combo's differ in relationship to where they are in the wheel well to one another.

I hope my post was of help to you.

Re: Widest track 8"
Excellent!
Thanks!
Did a little more research at Tire Rack, they have some 17x8s with a 35mm offset with a recommended tire size of 235/50/17. I looked at the specs for a random 235/50/17 (RE040s) and found a section width of 9.8" and tread width of 8.1 inches (measured on a 7.5" width).
I then went to look up the specs on a 245/45/17 Falken Azenis and found a 9.8" section width and 9" tread with measured on a 8".
This makes me think the 35mm offset would be ok (assuming that the 235/50/17s on the 35mm don't rub!)
