Worth it to get Springs without Rims?

Hi guys, just needed some input. I don't have enough money yet to buy the rims that I really want, but I can spare a couple hundred to get new lowering springs. I originally wanted to wait until I could get rims to order springs, but I like the look of the lowered G on stock rims as well.

Do you guys think I should get the rims now or wait until summer (If not longer) when I could hopefully afford the rims? Is it worth it?

Thanks

I think cars lowered on factory wheels looks pretty "civic". It might not look too bad with the 18s though.

Here is a picture I got from G35Coupe.net, it's a 6MT lowered on Tein S-Tech's. What do you think?

The eibach's have little less of a drop in the front (.1 inch).

Hey that's my car! Hehehe, to me I think lowering on stock wheels is fine. Not everyone can afford nice wheels, and it makes a huge night and day difference on the car when you kill the wheel gap.

It just sucks that my wheels are taking 4 months to get to me

Hey Jason, Nice car! I am debating whether to get Eibach's or Teins. I have heard that Eibach's offer a better ride. Not sure. The drop between the two is comparable.

Tein S.Tech = 1.2 Front 0.9 Rear.
Eibach = 1.1 Front 1.0 Rear.

The Teins are $145 while the Eibachs are $195. I think that Eibachs are more expensive because of the name, but I am not sure. Eiback does come with a better warranty. I am already conerned because I take dips really slow, don't know what the springs will do.

Jason, do you have problems with bottoming out? Rubbing the skid plate when going into driveways, etc?

Re: Worth it to get Springs without Rims?

Well I love the TEINs so far. I have used a lot of different suspension components throughout my working in the industry, and TEIN is definitely one of the best companies to go with. Eibach is great as well. The Eibachs have stiffer springs rates, so I would honestly say that the TEINs offer the better ride, Eibachs offer the better performance.

I haven't had any problems at all with bottoming out and rubbing stuff. But I am in Florida, so it's not as crazy as your other situations

If they were the same price, what would you get?

TEINs without a doubt. For me, I prefer the nice ride of the G35, rather than an aggressive one. But that's just a matter of preference.

Re: Worth it to get Springs without Rims?

The problem that occurs with people only buying springs and not buying struts with it is, this causes cambering. The inner treads of your tires are going to wear out quicker. Also, you stock struts were put in to work with your stock spring height. Any lowering, will cause premature waearing on your struts. Hence, when ever I lowered my previous cars, I always do it right the first time...Shocks and Struts, better yet,..a full coilover system.

For all those that are going to say..."But I can't afford it!!" Then why the hell did you get a G35 coupe then? Trust me, I've hooked up many cars in my life and anyone taking the cheap way out, loses in the end.

P.S. - At least no one said "i'll cut my springs." LoL

"The problem that occurs with people only buying springs and not buying struts with it is, this causes cambering"

Actually, "cambering" is not a precise/correct term. NEGATIVE camber resuts from lowering a vehicle, which causes wear on the inner portion of the tire. (Due to the tires leaning inward from the top edge)

Negative camber is not related to the struts on a vehicle. A proper alignment and sometimes a camber kit are needed to correct negative camber issues on the G.

Struts on the G35 ARE ridiculously expensive. A set of Tein Basic coilovers run about the same as lowering springs and struts.
